Rachel’s Annual Family Christmas Gift Guide 2020

I’m about 2 weeks earlier getting my annual family Christmas gift guide published this year. For two reasons, the first is that this blog and my freelance writing work is now my full-time job so I’m more organised. Secondly, it’s predicted that although shoppers won’t necessarily spend more this Christmas compared to 2019, many more people will be shopping online versus in-store. There could be an impact on delivery waiting times and therefore shoppers are advised to start their online shopping earlier. Hence getting my Christmas gift ideas published for you to make a start! You can still check out last year’s bumper gift guide for ideas.

Experience Days

With Christmas at the end of the year, its always nice to have something to look forward to in the next year. This is where a gift of an experience day comes in. There is an enormous list of things to experience and do with Red Letter Days up and down the country. Even down here in Cornwall, like tickets to the Eden Project, there are a fair few choices! So why not gift your loved one something to look forward to next year?

German Black Forest Weather House

I adore this cute German Weather house made with wood from Cuckoo Clocks. The way it works is that when the weather is humid, the gut string inside changes its position and twists more or less. Therefore the female turns outside when it is dry and the male, when it is humid. It’s very quirky! At the moment it’s so damp and drizzly here in Cornwall I’ve yet to see the female come out!

  1. I’ve not started yet but this year I’m looking to get family and friends a gift really personal to them for example a canvas of a beloved pet or family shot and a hamper of luxury treats you wouldn’t normally buy for yourself

  2. Yes I was anxious to buy the grandchildren’s Presents as they seem to be flying off the shelves early this year, but I still have a lot more to buy for the rest of the family

  3. Yes I was anxious to buy the grandchildren’s Presents as they seem to be flying off the shelves early this year, but I still have a lot more to buy

  4. It depends what is on in the Black Friday sales, i have a huge list and will whittle them off in the weeks to come

  5. I made a start back at the start of October, but this is the first year I have started this early and mainly because it’s our first Christmas with a baby so I didn’t want there to be as much of an expense going out in one month. Some family members are really easy other will take a lot more though as to what to get them.

  6. I’ve done a little bit of shopping for my nephews (books and toys) but still have a lot to buy for the rest of my family. I think I may have a go at making some chocolate truffles as gifts 🙂

  7. I have done most of my shopping, the main presents are bought just have some stocking fillers to get for the grandchildren.

  8. i have not started the shopping yet, any other year the lists would be going around, but this year most people will be getting gift cards or money, things that are easy to post. just in case we dont get to see one another

  9. I have bought about half of them gradually over the last few months . I love this bundle you are giving away thank you for a brilliant giveaway

  10. Not started shopping for any presents yet, but started the food shop last month by adding a few non-perishable items to my basket each week.

  11. I have bought almost everything for my two-year-old, he’s really easy to shop for. Finding something for my mum, my sister and especially my boyfriend will be much trickier!

  12. I haven’t started Christmas shopping yet but I’ve asked my family to let me know what they want, hopefully they wont take too long x

  13. I would say about 75% of my Christmas shopping is done! I’ve just got my brothers to buy for and have no idea what to get them!

  14. I am a lot further forward with my Christmas shopping than I was this time last year. However, I probably still have at least another half of the presents to buy and I certainly aren’t sure what to get everyone.

  15. I have started shopping, just a few bits at the moment. I know what my children would like but my parents, brothers & sisters and their children are a problem. The adults are really hard to buy for x

  16. I haven’t started any Christmas shopping at all yet and I’ll probably get everyone gift cards and let them all choose for themselves.

  17. Hadn’t even thought about Christmas shopping yet until I saw this. I probably wont start until December, I am one of those crazy last minute shoppers so this has certainly given me some ideas. I love the neon print by ink and drop!

    1. I’ve got presents for my kids, lego for my 6 year old. A scooter for my 4 year old and Thomas track for my 2 year old. But brought nothing for anyone else.

All priority this year my family understand kids first 🌈❤️

  18. I’ve done the bulk of shopping for my little one (though some great ideas here!) but need to get started on the grown ups. Can’t believe it’s only a few weeks away!

  19. I have a couple of presents but I do have a list and know what I am getting for everyone, although as I now dont have a job now I am trying to buy cheap but lovely unique presents. It’s also my daughter’s birthday early Dec so I want to get that out of the way before I concentrate on Christmas.

  20. I have started today I am always last minute and I never learn I give my family a coucher then just concentrate on getting my daughter what she wants

  21. I have all of the present for my Daughters but I haven’t bought anything for anybody else yet. Need to get moving soon! 🙂

  22. I have done a little bit but still need to shop for a few friends and my fiancé – I have bought clothing and experience vouchers for my family

  23. We are almost done. I just need to get hubby something from kids and pay my sister what i owe her on things we are going halves with then finished x

  24. I haven’t started yet and with the way the situation is with COVID-19.. presents are going to be very thin on the ground this year….. our parent’s and other family members live missions away and posting them would prove too costly.

  25. I have started, but I don’t know what I am getting everyone yet. Hopefully I will get some inspiration soon.

  26. I’ve bought a few stocking fillers so far. I have my daughters 21st birthday a week before Xmas so I have lots to buy yet.

  27. I haven’t started my Christmas shopping yet but I have a few ideas – a pair of trainers for my son (I just need to figure out the size), some new jeans for my sister and some slippers and an afternoon tea voucher for my mum (I just hope she picks me to take with her 🙂 as it looks fabulous)

  28. I have done majority of the wrapping and gift bags for my family and boyfriend . I’m ahead of where I normally am

  29. I haven’t started shopping properly yet, just have a few small stocking fillers. My children have made lists of what they would like.

  30. I’ve got bits laid away for stockings and we’re going to try and make some presents this year, seeing as we’ve got all this time at home! But I haven’t done the main buying yet.

  31. I’ve technically started it, by buying my dad a fleece jacket to wear in the garden while he’s out with his telescopes, but we gave it to him already to make good use of it! Hah! Otherwise, not started it yet! I’ve got an idea what we want to get the in-laws, but not sure what to get my mother, who also has her birthday in December! Eeep!

  32. I haven’t started getting my Christmas gifts yet, I have a few ideas for gifts this year but haven’t got anthing yet

  33. I haven’t started my Christmas shopping, I’m always very last minute and I really don’t know what to get for anyone this year.

  34. I haven’t started yet, but I’m hoping to get most done on Thursday and Friday as I have the day off. Realised today that it needs to be done ASAP in case we are told to isolate, can’t risk last minute this year.

  35. Yes I have started. Shielding so I’m having to think outside the box this year! I know what I’m buying my parents – I’m making a food (lockdown!) hamper

  36. Lots of quality bargains out there if you shop around which has been hard during lockdown but I’m glad I started at the start of 2020 with items I bought at great value, I just got remember where I stored them? Just got couple of gifts to get so well prepared this Christmas.

  37. I have started picking some bits up for my children so I have a few things put away but I’ve still got a long way to go yet.

  38. At present, I have yet to start my Christmas shopping. I’m hoping to grab a bargain in the Black Friday sales.

  39. I like to shop early for Christmas, and as non essential shops are closing for lockdown in England, I think I will shop online from small businesses.

  40. I’ve got most of my stuff already. I buy stuff throughout the year and I also buy love2shop vouchers for the food shop at Iceland. I also buy a lot of things second hand if I can. We go on holiday twice a year so I am quite frugal to avoid us missing out on that.

  41. I started earlier this year because I had a feeling we would end up in another lockdown, I’m so glad I did now. I’m not finished yet but at least I’ve started! Staying positive x

  42. I’ve no idea what I’m getting this year but I’m not worrying too much as long as I get to spend time with family and friends x

  43. I have made a start yes, I am going to give cash as a main pressie, then a little trinket or personal bit from Etsy, I have really streamlined it down though due to to reduced income xx

    1. I have completely surprised myself with my organisation this year (first time ever!) and I am nearly finished. Toys and books mainly for the kids.

  44. Not really started yet although I bought my eldest son some fun ‘dad’ pjamas today, but I don’t really count them as it was an impulse buy! I have no idea what to get anyone & really should start thinking about it.

  45. I’m afraid I started my Christmas shopping in the spring!! As soon as we entered lockdown I was very pessimistic and thought we might still be struggling by Christmas so I started looking for gifts for the kids everytime I went anywhere.

  46. I’ve started shopping a little although I usually get Halloween out of the way first (which is also my daughte daughters birthday) I know what I’m getting most people, just my grandparents are a little tricky.

  47. I like to start early as quite a lot to buy for, now I’m just worried about getting the gifts to people.

    1. Got a few bits for my boys I like to start stocking fillers early and leave the big ones to later as they always change their minds.

  48. I started some shopping for my daughter this month, and I’m planning to get more next weekend so I hopefully they will arrive whilst she is at school. As for everyone else I haven’t decided what to get them yet.

    1. I shop from January to the end of October for Christmas having November and December off. I then start again in the sales.

  49. We’ve only just finished with birthdays, so we haven’t started Christmas yet, gosh, we’ll probably begin at the beginning of December, knowing me! If not later xx

  50. Yes, we started August payday, only because we cant go and do the usual shopping this year with towns being lock down, so were getting things when we see them

  58. I started my Christmas shopping in September I know what to buy family apart from my husband who is always hard to buy for.
