The National Maritime Museum

Monsters of the Deep Exhibition

Plunge down to the dark murky depths of the ocean and discover the monsters that lurk beneath. Are there krakens with tentacles two miles long and giant sharks as big as skyscrapers?

Explore the centuries-old myths and legends, when chance sightings and odd appearances led to tall tales of deep-sea creatures. Learn how, even today, these stories continue to capture imaginations, fuelled by fake news and conspiracy theories.

Runs until 22nd January 2022

Silhouettes & Sharks

Spooky Shadow Stories

Monday 26th to Friday 30th October 2020
Enjoy sea monster tales using shadow puppets from the deep in the Museum’s Main Hall.

Make and Take

Saturday 24th October – Sunday 1st November 2020
Join us for a spooky Make and Take as we craft shadow puppets.

Scary Sea spirits have invaded the museum! Can you uncover them all to claim a prize?

Price – The Silhouettes and Shadows October half term activities are FREE as part of the Museum’s annual admission fee. Pay once and get in free for a year.

Things To Consider:

Please follow social distancing rules & Government guidelines throughout. If somewhere is busy on arrival, please consider leaving and returning at a later date. 

Anyone over 11 years old must wear a face-covering in indoor settings by law, that came into force on Saturday 8th August.

Booking events/tickets in advance is done so at your own risk.
