Shopping for Wide Fit Shoes

I have always had large wide feet. When I left Primary School my feet were a size 6. It wasn’t much fun. All my friends had cool shoes but mine were just big and clumpy.

Now I’m a size 9. It’s not much fun as an adult trying to find shoes that fit either.  Most high street shops stop at size 8. At work I have to wear safety boots and mine are the men’s ones. I couldn’t squeeze my wide and rather long feet into the women’s safety boots.

I know there are women out there like me who dread the high street shopping for wide fit shoes. But lucky nowadays with online shopping, it’s opened up a whole new world that is so much closer to home. With just a few clicks you can find the perfect pair of wide fit shoes in an instant, and have them delivered straight to your door.

Shopping for Wide Fit Shoes

I always look for comfort when buying shoes, more than what they look like.

Here are my top tips for buying wide fitting shoes:

  • Most people have one foot slightly larger than the other, so fit your shoe to the larger foot.
  • Choose a shoe that is shaped like your foot.
  • Don’t select shoes by the marked size, but by how it feels on your foot. So get out there and try them all on!
  • Walk around in the shoes to make sure they fit and feel comfortable.
  • Don’t buy shoes that feel too tight.
  • Make sure the ball of your foot fits comfortably into the widest part of the shoe.
  • Have your feet measured in store.
  • Look for shoes with wide toes, not the pointy kind.
  • Lace up shoes are great for having the shoe as wide as you need.

Did you know that although some people are born with wide feet, others gain wide feet through the following common causes:

  • Pregnancy
  • Aging
  • Obesity
  • Excessive Standing for long periods of time
  • Bunions

Do you have trouble finding shoes that fit properly? As always I love to hear your thoughts.
