How Can We Create a Bright Future for Our Children?

Since becoming a parent I have often thought about baby girl’s future. How can we create a Bright Future for our children? We have been set a challenge by Unilever called #brightFuture to discover little things as a family we can do to change the future for the better.

Unilever products - Helping create a bright Future for our children

At the heart of the Unilever brightFuture initiative is the goal to unite communities and encourage small changes in everyday life that have a positive impact on the world.

Here are some of our little things we have changed to help make our world a better place and to shape a bright future:

  • Turning the tap off when brushing teeth
  • Recycling
  • Re-using boxes and bottles/jars
  • Composting fruit and veg peelings
  • Turning the TV off and not leaving it on standby
  • Remembering to turn off lights when leaving a room
  • Meal Planning, so we don’t buy food to waste.
  • Only use reusable bags

Potty Training Chart Review & Giveaway

Now I know baby girl is only 8 months old so way too early for potty training. Although Holly Willoughby did potty train her one year old son so she claimed earlier this year. As a new mum I honestly don’t have the foggiest idea when to start potty training. But I’m sure my mother’s instinct will kick in and I will know when she’s ready!

I know many of you are mum’s and some of you are around the potty training stage I expect, so when I was asked if I would like to review and host a giveaway for the Victoria Chart Company, I thought it would be a great idea. I’m sure you can also pass on some tips to me for when my time comes around…hint hint!

10 Months Have Passed – My Return To Work

It’s here.

I never expected my maternity leave to go so fast.

Roll back 10 months

I’m getting up at 4:45, that’s not true. My husband is pulling me up out of bed at 8 months pregnant to go to work on my last day. That day has come. Normality as we know it is disappearing. The next time I walk through these doors at work I will be a mum.

So here I am sitting on my stairs struggling to tie up the laces on my safety boots. Just think Rach in 10 hours time you will be free of work for 10 whole months. Truthfully all I’m thinking about is getting through this day. Baby girl loves to lie on my sciatica nerve. Standing on your feet all day is no joke. Might have to find a place to hide in!

Rest up feet up!

That won’t happen as its a Saturday.

7 Hints and Tips for Lunchbox Ideas with Flora

We have been invited to take part in the Flora Lunchbox Challenge, which aims to give parents healthier and nutritious lunchbox ideas for their children.

Flora commissioned a study recently with Leeds University to discover what children were actually given in their lunchboxes. They found that children were being sent to school with pasties, wotsits, a chocolate bar and sugary squash.

I have nothing against pasties in kids lunch boxes being from Cornwall, I actually used to enjoy a pasty in mine as a kid! But it needs to be complimented with healthier snacks – not wotsits or chocolate!

What can parents do to unwind around the home?

Ever since I became a parent, I appreciate the odd spare moment I get to unwind around the home. Those moments are precious I can tell you! To relax and unwind I love to read. I can read anywhere. The bedroom , living room, bathroom and garden. Even the kitchen if I’m reading a magazine. Ultimately it’s the living room on the comfy sofa with a hot chocolate at this time of year.

In the Summer I find a shady spot in the garden or under the parasol to do my reading. Rattan Direct have some lovely garden furniture to unwind in the garden. Next Year when we move house I want to treat us to new garden furniture.
