Jay-Jay and the Carnival by Sue Wickstead

*I was gifted a copy of Jay-Jay and the Carnival in exchange for this post, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’m excited to be on the blog tour today, for another one of the fabulous Sue Wickstead’s books. You may remember earlier in the year I shared with you a review of Jay-Jay the Supersonic Bus. Well, I’m back sharing our review of Jay-Jay and the Carnival.

Jay-Jay and the Carnival by Sue Wickstead

Book Description

Jay-Jay the Supersonic Bus is a brightly coloured playbus full of toys. He’s always ready for adventure, and after an eventful Summer, the bus is ready for his journey to the carnival. The children are also excited – but what will happen on the way?

What We Think

Like Sue’s previous children’s picture books Jay-Jay and the Carnival is visually stunning. It’s bright colourful and full of busyness. L loves to chat about the pictures and what’s going on in each one. It makes reading through the cook even more special.

Who doesn’t love a carnival? Perfect for a Summer read, as Jay-Jay tells you the story from his point of view and how he’s a part of the whole community and everyone wants to help out. He does get into a little bother on the way to the carnival, but teamwork gets him back running again and on the road.

The story of Jay-Jay is appealing to preschoolers like L as well as older children. It is recommended for ages 4-8 years.

We are happy to add Jay-Jay and the Carnival to our bookshelf to be read time and time again. (Yes, that does happen! L sometimes likes me to read her stories at least 3 times in a row!)

Themes – teamwork, appreciation, real play and community spirit.
