Today I’m pleased to be a part of the one day blog blitz of Jay-Jay the Supersonic Bus by Sue Wickstead. It’s a fantastic children’s book to read at story time.

Book Description
Jay-Jay the bus is rescued from the dirty scrap yard, where he was sadly gathering dust and cobwebs. Feeling nervous yet excited, he is taken to an airport where he is magically transformed into a ‘Playbus’ full of toys, games, and adventure.
A fictional tale based on a real-life bus ‘Supersonic’, which flew in the imaginations of the many young children who visited it.

What We Thought
We love the story. It’s colourful and fun. With illustrations to match. If you think about it, the story is around recycling old things. In this case Jay-Jay the double-decker bus.
Jay-Jay is rusting away and on the scrap heap, he was sent to. He is sad and is scared he will be broken up and used for spares. But one day he is taken away to the airport hanger.
Great things are in store for Jay-Jay. He is going to be turned into a playbus for children to play on. This is the best news ever for Jay-Jay!
The author has perfectly incorporated recycling and repurposing into this book. It shows children, that whatever it may look like it’s possible to use it in some other way.

The playbus was indeed a fantastic place for children to play and it is good to know its story continues in fictional form.
