Today we are excited to bring you our review of Blue’s Planet: Australia by Lucy McRobert for the Blog Tour with Sweet Cherry Publishing. It’s our first book review and first blog tour for 2024! What’s exciting about this middle-grade book for children is that it focuses on current topics about our environment, such as global warming, bushfires, activism, and conservation. It’s highly recommended for young fans of Greta Thunberg.
Blue’s Planet: Australia is the first book in the Blue’s Planet series, which sees globetrotting 12 year old, animal lover Blue go on ecological adventures. She’s determined to make a difference on a quest to save the world!

What We Thought
Blue’s Planet: Australia is book 1 of a refreshing new environmental adventure series. It’s based around being for ages 9-12 years, but I thoroughly enjoyed it as an adult! My 7 year old is now getting stuck in, she says it’s brilliant and is learning lots of new things about Australia.
Blue is a lovely and exciting character for children to look up to. She is full of energy and passion! Blue’s Planet: Australia starts with Blue rescuing a hedgehog. It starts straight away showing her compassion for animals and her need to help. Blue is completely relatable to many children and her feeling of being different from her peers at school. But this doesn’t stop her passions in life. Her eco-conscious way of thinking is inspiring, she is an optimistic character and empowers children to think about how they can save the planet.
The book touches on social media, which is an excellent current topic with its use in young people, and how it can be safe if monitored correctly. It’s also great for keeping in touch with friends, which is how Blue uses “NatterJack” when she is on the other side of the world from her best friend Neve.
I think the setting of the first book in Australia is perfect for children being introduced to these environmental issues. Also, Blue discovered many different animals during her time there, a “laughing Kookaburra!” It’s a diverse ecosystem different to our own here in the UK for children to learn about and explore.
It’s worth mentioning the lovely illustrations throughout the book by Alisha Monnin, they bring the story to life!
We cannot wait for the next book in the series to find out where Blue ends up next!
