While many of us may love the comforts of a rainy day, the majority of children will spend their day sighing deeply and staring out the window at the dull grey skies. But just because the kids are stuck indoors for the day, it doesn’t have to mean that they can’t have some fun!

Look to some of the classics
There’s a misconception that kids are too far beyond some of the things we adults used to do for fun. Put that theory to the test by blowing the dust off some of your favourite board games and see how they react to it.
Some friendly competition never hurt anyone, and within minutes you’ll soon see your kids loving every minute as they roll the dice and make their next moves. Put down the electric devices and gather as a family for some quality time together.
Get creative
Put down some old newspaper on the kitchen table and find some makeshift canvases for the kids to get creative with. Once you’ve covered the surrounding areas and it’s safe to do so, break out the paints and let their imaginations run wild.
With so many distractions for children to contend with on a daily basis, it’s easy to forget how stimulating and rewarding it can be for them to express themselves artistically. Encourage a pressure-free painting environment and nurture their inner Picasso!
Read as a family
To keep children engaged with group reading, sometimes taking turns to read a page out loud is best. Not only will they begin to feel like an important part of the reading process, but they’ll also become more invested in the story itself.

Plan a scavenger hunt
Tear up some sheets of paper and make a few colourful clue cards. Enlist the kids to become little indoor detectives for the day. They’ll need to solve each clue and find items around the house in order to solve the mystery and perhaps even win a special treat.
This scavenger hunt can be a creative way to encourage tidying up and completing chores without fuss, or just plain silly fun for the family. You choose!
Bake it up
If the weather outside is dark and grey, then why not fill up your kitchen with delicious smells and colourful baked goods?
Children in the kitchen can be worrisome for many parents, but with a simple recipe to follow and some clear instructions on what they can and cannot do, it’s endless fun!
Bake up a batch of something delicious and let the kids decorate the tops with whatever they like to make it more memorable.
