3 Top Tips for Decluttering the Children’s Bedroom

Your laundry room and your kids’ rooms are examples of rooms that you would wish to lock and never have a look at ever again. With all the toys, clothes, shoes and books thrown all over the place, their bedroom usually looks disastrous. It may be frustrating for most parents, especially mothers and housekeepers, but all hope is not lost.

Important Tips to Use

You may clean and organize their rooms daily, but if you fail to come up with a strategy of how that room will remain organized for some time, then your efforts will be null and void. Here are some of the top tips that you will use for decluttering the children’s bedroom.

 1. Permit Your Children to Let Go of Things they don’t Want

Even though the toy or the pair of shoes belongs to the child, he or she may not feel at liberty to dispose of or give it out to other people. They still know that they are supposed to ask for permission to give them away, or rather assume that you will somehow notice that they do not need the item anymore and you will give it away.

Majority of the children do not know that it is okay for them to reject what they do not want. Therefore, the parent must educate the child that they are free to say no whenever they do not want a toy or a pair of shoes.

Be sure to use positive language with the child when you want to declutter an item. You can say, for example, that for that particular toy that needs to be done away with, you are giving it a new home and not just discarding it.

 2. Give the Stuff a New Home

One interesting thing about children is that they have a habit of personifying objects. You can use this habit to your advantage. Ask them questions like ‘’would you like this book to have a new home?’’ They will probably say yes to that and you can move to the next step and give it a new home.

3. Get the Children Involved

Young children like to take part in most activities as they are usually hyperactive. Ask them to give you a tour of their room and you will know whether they know where different items are. If you notice that shoes are all over the floor, ask them to show you where the shoe storage is and politely inquire why they have not stored them appropriately.

The children will not get bored or tired, especially if you make it as interesting as possible. Talk to them about string things in the bedroom in a tidy manner. For example, ask them why they think you chose the shoe storage area close to the closet.

Then make them understand why. You can come up with simple rules to follow and perhaps create a song for them to remember easily.

Decluttering your children’s bedroom does not have to be an all-serious activity. Just as long you engage them and use positive words and ideas as well.
