Top Tips On Organising Your Garage

We have been living here in our lovely home for 3 years this month. It’s been a crazy 3 years with losing my dad, and having a new baby. Well, that baby is 2 years old now and we have the baby stuff still in the garage. Alongside a few moving boxes, that I’ve yet to sort out.

Don’t they say if you haven’t used things stored away for a year, then you don’t need it? Well, I’m one of those people that do. I am a slight hoarder, but I’m getting better! I like to keep things I could upcycle and use again.

In fact, I was only thinking about my dad’s old wheelbarrow in my mum’s garden and how it would be a good idea to turn it into a planter. It would be perfect. Give it a new lease of life.

Going back to our garage. When we have a chance, Mr B and I need to have a right go through, sort, and tidy. We have been thinking about storage for a while. Mr B would like the garage to be a workshop, so it desperately needs organising. Even thinking about using offsite storage for the stuff we want to keep but rarely use.

But how do you go about organising a garage?

A garage is a dumping ground. When we had Christmas, and the girls birthdays, we have dumped the large cardboard boxes just inside the door. I keep meaning to flat pack them for recycling, or give them to someone moving house.

We don’t have a garden shed, so the lawnmower lives in the garage along with all the gardening tools. Over winter, we also had the garden furniture and parasol in there along with the girl’s garden toys. When my mother in law downsized, we somehow ended up with her stuff in our garage, which I’m not best pleased about. We have enough of our own stuff!

I think the first step to organising your garage is to remove all the cardboard and rubbish you have just dumped in there. You need to make the space useful, and clutter-free.

I’ve seen some great space-saving organisation tips over on Pinterest. Like this pegboard organiser. Other tips on organising your garage can be using a vertical bike rack. Having a gardening corner. I do like this idea! I’ve been thinking of putting a small table in the corner for using to pot my plants and storing seeds, and tools. Mr B has been thinking about getting some shelves for the back wall to store all the car bits and bobs. I was thinking of getting some baskets and storage crates for the kids toys and sports equipment to make that area tidier.

There are quite a few ways of organising your garage, I’ve shared a few, but I would love to hear your ideas.

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you’ve enjoyed this post.
