With the weather turning for the better now BBQ season is here. So outdoor eating with friends and family is the known thing to do. We have lots of wet cold weather here in the UK therefore every bit of sun we get we appreciate it. As well as your usual BBQ food like burgers and sausages, we like to do salads and fajitas also. When we were asked to try out the new gluten free fajita kits from Old El Paso, I thought it would be ideal to see what they are like before we get our BBQ out and invite friends around.
Smoky BBQ is one if the most popular fajita kit flavours so it was the perfect choice to make a gluten free version. In fact it’s “free from” as well. It does contain soy though, but if you are nut-free, dairy-free, wheat-free or egg-free you are onto a winner. It’s a great kit that can be enjoyed by everyone around the table.
Gluten Free Fajita Kit Contains:
- 8 Gluten free tapioca, corn and quinoa tortillas
- Thick ‘n’ Chunky Tomato topping salsa
- Seasoning mix for BBQ Fajitas
Recipe
15 minutes to prepare.
Serves 3-4.
To make our fajitas we sliced up an orange and a red pepper and 3 onions.
Cooked off 500g of chicken breast strips.
Added the peppers and onions to the cooked chicken.
Next we added the Smoky BBQ seasoning mix, oh the smell is so lush! It’s not overly spicy as it has a mild rating.
Then the ingredients were left to cook through.
We warmed up the tortillas in the oven ready for serving, but they can be warmed through in the microwave as well.
Overall Thoughts
I was pleasantly surprised at the taste and softness of the gluten free tortillas. They were easy to fold and didn’t break at all. The salsa topping was rich, chunky and full of taste. I believe it added that extra zing to the dish. A very moreish easy to make meal, perfect for Summertime. Great for all types of guests whatever their dietary requirements.
