The living room is my favourite room in the house. It’s where we spend the most time. The space we have isn’t the biggest but I do love the coziness of it. We have been living here for 4 months so now is the time to think about how we want our space to be.
One thing is for certain I want Oak furniture to feature. It’s timeless, worth investing in and very stylish. It will last for ever! There is something about Oak Wood, that makes a home feel warm. With it’s natural beauty and strength it will last forever.
As Autumn leaves us, Winter is coming (sorry I had to put that I’m a huge Game of Thrones fan!) and it’s time to get your home cosy for Winter. Winter is such a fabulous time of the year. You have crisp cold mornings and dark cosy evenings. Perfect for snuggling up by the fire with a good book and a hot chocolate.
Of course Winter also means Christmas. For us this is family time, when my older sister comes over from Canada and we have huge get togethers. Eating lots of food, playing silly games and having a laugh. That’s what it’s all about.
I have come up with 5 ways to make your home cosy this Winter, and to help you get ahead before the Christmas plans come into place.
With less than 12 weeks until Christmas it’s time to start thinking about preparing for guests staying with you. Most people have family members stay with them over Christmas and we are no exception. My sister lives in Canada but always comes home for Christmas. She normally spends time at mum’s and with us, but because we moved into our new house back in June, the guest bedroom still needs some love. It’s the one room we use to dump unpacked boxes in!
By taking part in Bed Guru’s #GuestBedReady campaign it gives me the perfect excuse to declutter the room. Get it to how I want it to be – the perfect guest bedroom to get a great night’s sleep!
The main focus of a guest bedroom is of course the bed. I always prefer a normal divan bed for the spare bedroom because they can come with storage drawers underneath which is perfect for storing the spare bedding. Bed Guru has a great selection of guest beds to suit any guest bedroom.
Moving into a new home was a very special time for us. We finally had worked our socks off to afford a gorgeous 3 bed detached house with a rather large garden. Much better than the 3 storey town house built into a hill we moved from. Anyway we love proper wood furniture, the sturdy robust type that will last forever and worth spending those extra pennies on.
I love a blank room to plan from, this is what one end of the living room looked like before the movers arrived. It doesn’t look like that now of course – it’s missing baby girl’s toys! But you have an idea of the space.
We left all of baby girls wall stickers on her old bedroom wall in our old house as they were too hard to get off without damaging the paintwork. So this is the perfect opportunity to have a hunt around for some new artwork and prints for her bedroom walls, and we have been very lucky in that Arty Apple came along and offered up a review of a product on her site we knew exactly what to choose – personalised wall art.
Moving into a new home has given me lots of new ideas of how to make our home very special. My favourite room in our house is the kitchen diner, and I’ve been thinking of ways to jazz it up a bit. Previously I told you about my #InteriorInspirations for the kitchen and ways to make it more homely, now I want to brainstorm kitchen lighting.
This time of year natural light is in abundance for much of the day, but come Autumn and Winter with those dark mornings and evenings lighting is very important to me in the kitchen. When I get home from work I like to get the tea on and then prepare the packed lunches for the next day, so I can spend up to 2 hours in the kitchen in the early evenings.
