How To Write Effective Cold Emails to Get Great Responses

*This is a collaborative post with Responsival

As a blogger I get approached daily by cold emailers, mostly they are trying to sell their SEO services or website designs to me. I do take the time to read them to see how they could help me and how good their pitch is. I figure they have taken the time to write the email, the least I can do is read it! In this post today, I’m exploring the concept of cold emails and how you can write an effective cold email to get responses. But first things first……

What is a cold email?

“A cold email is an introductory message sent in the hope of initiating new business or contact with a potential customer.”

A cold email is an introductory message sent to introduce yourself and your business, or product to a prospective customer. It should be brief, succinct, and polite. The purpose of the cold email is to generate conversation with a prospective client who may need your products or services whether that’s now or in the future.

What Should be Included?

An effective cold email should be concise and well-formatted, follow good content marketing practice, focus on one specific area of interest, make a request for immediate action, and provide evidence that you are trustworthy.

Cold emailing is a great way to reach out to potential clients. But if you don’t do it right, then it can be quite ineffective. Here are some tips on how to create an effective cold email:

1) Include one core message in the email.

2) Use a personable introduction that introduces yourself and your company. This is important because when sending your first cold email, the recipient has no idea who you are or what you’re selling. So start by saying something like “Hi John, I hope this e-mail finds you well” or “Hi John, I’m Katie (editor’s name). Hope all is well.”

3) Provide information about what the recipient will get from contacting you and/or reading your message.

In this post today, I’m exploring the concept of cold emails and how you can write an effective cold email to get responses.

What Makes an Effective Cold Email?

Cold emails are one of the most effective marketing techniques. But, they are also one of the toughest to write. Here are some tips on what makes an effective cold email:

– Write an intriguing subject line

– Start with a strong introduction that will grab their attention and give them a reason to respond. No longer than 2-3 sentences.

– Keep it short and concise

– Use a single call to action at the end of your email

– Alleviate your prospective customer’s pain point and give them something they want/need.

Summary

  • A cold email is an introductory message sent in the hope of initiating new business or contact with a potential customer.
  • It should focus on one specific area of interest, make a request for immediate action, and provide evidence that you are trustworthy.
  • Short and concise
  • Be appreciative
  • Be personal

Is there anything I’ve missed off that you think is important? As always I love to read your comments.
