Kid’s Book Gift Ideas For Christmas

*Ad-Gifted

I remember as a kid loving getting books for Christmas. One of my favourites was The Wishing Chair by Enid Blyton. As a book-loving family, I love to give books and receive books for Christmas for myself and the girls. So here I have two stunning books that make the most wonderful kid’s book gift ideas for Christmas.

Kids Book Gift Ideas For Christmas

A Natural History of Mermaids

This gorgeous volume is filled with beautiful illustrations and precise notes detailing the secret life of mermaids, featuring a silver-foil-embossed cloth cover, a ribbon marker, and sprayed silver edges.

A Natural History of Mermaids

Book Description

In 1872, intrepid (fictional) explorer Darcy Delamare disguised herself as a man to claim a place on board the (real-life) scientific expedition of the HMS Challenger. She made a record of her findings on the trip, recounting the extraordinary sea creatures she witnessed: creatures that, until now, nobody had believed really existed… mermaids!

A Natural History of Mermaids

Following on from the beautiful A Natural History of Fairies and A Natural History of Magick, this beautifully illustrated vintage album is filled with descriptions and illustrations of Delamare’s findings, from tales of mermaids in ancient lore to more recent sightings as well as facts on the beliefs and superstitions surrounding these elusive creatures.

Children will delight in discovering the anatomy, behaviour and lifecycles of the Merfolk and how they have hidden themselves from human discovery over millennia. Pore over the anatomy of tails, learn how these mysterious creatures communicate and immerse yourself in their underwater world.

The Folklore Field Guides series is a charming collection of beautifully illustrated handbooks on topics of lore and legend. Fascinating facts are accompanied by breathtaking illustrations, all presented in an engaging narrative form.

Kaleidoscope of Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Life

Think dinosaurs were all brown, green and scaly? Think again, on a kaleidoscopic journey into the technicolour world of dinosaurs and other prehistoric beasts as they may have looked.

Kaleidoscope of Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Life

Book Description

A richly detailed and vibrantly illustrated natural history book, this fascinating read is bursting with colour and will show you dinosaurs like never before. Discover cutting-edge theories on feathered dinosaurs, the colourful secrets of the fossil record, and what million-year-old remains tell us about how extinct animals lived and looked. Palaeo-artist and author Greer Stothers reimagines the dinosaurs and their prehistoric peers, using fossils and examples of living species to bring this often misrepresented world to life.

Kaleidoscope of Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Life

Meet dinosaurs of every hue of the rainbow and find out what colours and patterns they may have been. This book is packed full of fascinating questions, like:

  • What colours could dinosaurs’ feathers have been?
  • Would a snow-dwelling dino have been a brilliant white?
  • What could mutant dinosaurs have looked like?

As well as the dinos, the book looks at other extinct animals, shows how animals from the Ice Age may have looked, and explores how clues about long-dead creatures can be discovered from art by the prehistoric peoples who encountered them.

This is a beautifully illustrated first look at the kaleidoscopic world of dinosaurs and other creatures for young children and makes a gorgeous gift for young palaeontologists and art lovers alike.

  1. I, too, think books are a wonderful gift. I can remember getting The Wizard of Oz for my 8th birthday and being so unhappy when I finished it, because there was no more! Another thought is to provide a slightly grander gift – a place to store those books and many others.
