Dead Ringer by Nicola Martin – Book Review

*AD-gifted: I received a copy of Dead Ringer in exchange for this post.

Today it’s my turn for the blog tour for Dead Ringer by Nicola Martin. A young adult psychological thriller that will make you see social media apps in a different way.

Dead Ringer by Nicola Martin

Book Description

Get ready to meet the other you.

Just upload your photo to get started. Using the latest facial recognition software, plus your votes, MeetYourDouble will find your doppelganger.

The idea is simple, vain, exciting. Tap the app, upload a picture, find your #deadringer – and if you like, set up a meeting in real life.

When Ella and Jem connect, the resemblance is uncanny, but their lives are polar opposites. One is stagnating in her Northern hometown, while the other, an aspiring actress living in a multimillion-pound mansion, is a Chelsea socialite who knows she’s skating on thin ice.

Other than their looks, their only similarity is the desire to escape. Is it possible to hide in your double’s skin? And at what cost? Dead Ringer is an all-too-believable, twisty, compelling story that will leave you reeling.

My Thoughts

I’m going to start saying that Dead Ringers is a psychological thriller that is unputdownable. Led by two diverse and strong characters, Ella and Jem that couldn’t be any different. A good plot that is exciting and chilling.

We meet Ella who lives a sheltered life in Cumbria, lonely and very little money to her name. Jem, on the other hand, is an outgoing actress living in London with a party lifestyle.

Ella uploads her picture to the app “MeetYourDouble” with promises of connecting with your doppelganger. Matched with Jem the pair decide to meet up….and swop lives.

Dead Ringer touches on mental health issues, and everyday social pressures brought about by social media. It’s great to read a book that’s dealing with current situations.

With lots of twists and turns head, you won’t be disappointed. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this debut novel.
