The start of the new year is my favourite time. Goal setting, thinking ahead to where the year will take me. It was just today I spent some time scrolling through Twitter checking out everyone’s 2020 goal blog posts. Last year I had a family/personal goals post and a blog goal post, but this year I’m just going to set myself blog goals or goals for my freelance/self-employed career. The reason being is that I try and be quite strict in keeping to my “job goals” so home/family time is more relaxed and not forced into achieving goals. If you get what I mean.
This year marks 5 years of Rachel Bustin. I’m very proud of how far I’ve come over the years. I started off on blogger not having a clue what self-hosted meant. I have learned loads about the digital world and love to apply this to my work. Which brings me to my first goal.
1. Socially Rach
In the middle of last year I set up another couple of websites. Socially Rach and Home in the Pastures, but I didn’t really do much with them. I wanted to but with the girls, working part-time and running this blog I just didn’t have the time. This year I’m going to block out a few hours each week to concentrate on Socially Rach. Build it up as a help resource website on how to start your own blog and social media channels. I want to give back the knowledge I have learned to help others. I would love to create courses, so I want to learn how to do this in 2020.
2. Build My SEO Knowledge
Back in the early days, I didn’t have a clue what SEO was. I wrote loads of content but didn’t optimise it for SEO. With over 1400 blog posts and at least 700 of them needing optimising I have a huge job on my hands. But getting at least a couple of my top ranking posts improved will have my organic page views. As a PR told me last year, my blog DA is brilliant but my Google traffic not so much! That’s probably the kick up the backside I need!
I have a couple of posts that bring traffic via Pinterest each day. But out of 1400 posts, that’s pretty poor. I do feel as if I’m missing a trick with Pinterest so I need to up my game with this platform and make new pins and write good descriptions.
Those are my main blog and career goals for myself in 2020. now I had best get started on them!
Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you’ve enjoyed this post.
