7 Ideas On What To Do With Old Baby Clothes

Well Baby girl has reached the 3 month mark and doesn’t fit her 0-3 month old clothes anymore. Now is the time to do the first clear out of newborn clothes in her wardrobe. I’m going to let you in on some tips on clearing out the wardrobe and what to do with all old baby clothes.

*Baby Dottie has grown out of all her’s and Baby Girl’s clothes up to 9 months, so mega clearing out is commencing! I’m turning January into a mega cleaning and clear out junk month. Oh and hopefully make a few penny’s along the way. New Year, and all that!*

Keepsake Box

I do feel a bit sad about this as some pieces are so cute. I have been making up a Keepsake box as I go along keeping some items that hold special memories for us. I’ve kept her first baby grow and hat that she wore in the hospital. The first item of clothing we bought at our 20 week scan when we knew we were having a girl. That’s the cute little dress in the picture below. We have popped her little vest into the box as well that her daddy bought her as he is a huge Metallica fan.

Sell them – eBay and table top sales

Other newborn baby clothes we have decided to pack up, and sell some bits on eBay. At least this way other mums will get some use out of them as well for their babies. Tip – snow suit items are perfect for winter, keeping babies warm and snug, so if you have any of these, list them after the Summer. Summer clothes sell better in Spring/Summer.

Baby table top sales are ideal for clearing out unwanted clothes and items. Check out your local village hall to see if they do one. My local community area has one a month, it gets really busy, and you can sell anything baby related. Plus you don’t have to bother with postage fees like selling online.

It’s always good to check out local places on Facebook or other selling sites near you, to see where you can sell used baby clothes. There are always local Facebook selling sites in my area that pops on my feed often, so i’m sure there would be for you too.

*Update – I’ve planned in a baby table top sale in January. This time around, I’ve kept the boxes and instructions of larger items to sell on. I currently have 2 bouncers, 1 Lullago crib, the jumperoo will be finished by then. Lot and lots of baby clothes, 3 sleep bags. I’ve planned to pack all the old baby clothes up in a large suitcase to take there. Once there I will label the prices, as I would have already divided up into different packages for selling. Bundles of baby clothes sell better than individual items. A top tip from my friend. Scope the room out first before you pick your table. You don’t want to be next to someone who is also selling girls clothes like you. You don’t want to be fighting for customers!*

Pass onto family and friends

If you have family or friends with babies at the correct age, that’s another way of clearing out your babies wardrobe. I believe it’s important to have a clear out every so often to keep that clothing cycle going around and so you don’t get over run with outgrown clothes. Repurpose old clothes is a big thing in recent years.

Local charity shops

It seems nowadays babies never get full wear and tare out of there clothes, they grow so fast. Therefore most are practically brand new. So another way of clearing out old baby clothes is to give them to your local charity shops. They are always glad for baby clothes, plus they are going towards a good cause. We gave a lot of clothes, and toys to our local children’s hospice shop, and while we were there, picked up a few bits.

Keepsake Ideas

With the most special baby clothes, you can have them made into keepsakes. For example, an old sleep suit can be made into a teddy bear. Keepsakes made from baby clothes is a very popular way of cherishing memories. It’s also saving money on buying a gift for a special occasion, because you have your keepsake bear to give. If I’m being honest a keepsake item is a much better gift than some plastic throwaway toy.

Upcycle and Repurpose

How about using the clothes and turning them into another item. I’ve seen lots of ideas on Pinterest including making a beanie hat from an old t shirt, using another t shirt and adding other fabrics to turn it into a cute dress. I’ve also seen a headband made from the waistband of an old pair of joggers.

You can make quits and cushions from lots of different old baby clothes. So long as you are a dab hand with a sewing machine! But if you are not, don’t worry you can cut up pieces of the fabric and turn it into artwork. Yes I saw a piece of art with birds made from any old baby clothes.

Keep for a future sibling

Yes there is always this, but you need to pack away the clothes freshly washed and in vacuum bags, like these ones I got from Amazon. Suck the air out with your vacuum cleaner and you can safely store away for future use. Also they are a great space saver.

I hope these ideas have inspired you and given some food for thought. Second time around, I know we definitely won’t be having any more kids. We weighed up the pros and cons of having a third child, and it’s a no, so we are clearing out the wardrobe as we go along. The money we get from the clothes sales we will be putting back into their clothes pot for buying the next sizes up. It’s a fantastic way to earn money from baby clothes.
