It really makes me feel old thinking about the technology we had as kids, compared to what we have today. Reeling back the tape on a cassette with a pencil when it got caught up. Moving onto the shiny CD discs which even now seem obsolete! and now most music is stored on a cloud. How about explaining that to my 10 year old self! It’s got me thinking about the future living room technology we could have in 20, 30, even 50 years from now. What will it look like? The reason I chose the living room to focus on is that it’s the heart of the home. The room you spend around 10 years of your adult life watching TV!
You can bet that the living room will become a smarter place to relax in. What do you think about smart wallpapers that you could watch TV on? Where would you put your Samsung TV? I know! You could hang it on the wall to use as a picture frame!! Maybe TVs will start projecting holographic images right into your living room. Gaming will become a virtual reality. You will be inside the game playing while sitting in your living room.
The windows in the living room could be “smart”, they could go from clear to opaque as it got darker in the evenings. No more curtains. The interior of the living room will become more personalised to give the individual the ultimate experience. The right heating setting for you. Your favourite chair/sofa will have personalised settings for you. That cushion will be in the right spot. The lighting will be set at the correct brightness as it recognises you as you walk into the room. All around, you will have your own unique accessories, made by a 3D printer (I still can’t get my head around a 3D printer!)
For the living room walls, I would love paint that never gets scuffed and is self-cleaning! How cool would that be? Also, carpets that never get dirty and repel the dirt. Ideal for families. I know at the moment you can get those robot vacuum cleaners that go around by themselves. I really need one of them now!
