As you know I love to potter in the garden. Growing flowers, fruit and veg, but I’ve never tried growing anything in the kitchen. There are flowers and cacti on my window sills but have never thought about actually growing food inside.
The Grofresh Kitchen Garden lets you do just that. Grow your own food in the kitchen. By the way there is no soil or mess involved! It’s a really clean way to grow your own. May that be from seed or plant plugs.
We were sent a Grofresh Kitchen Garden to try out and to share our thoughts on it. Before I tell you about how we set ours up, here is a little about the Grofresh.
The Grofresh kitchen garden is fully automated, so you don’t have to worry about over-watering, under-watering, overfeeding or underfeeding. It will keep the growing environment at its optimum without the need for constant attention so if you have a busy life then you can still grow your own plants. All you must do is keep the system topped up with water, and it even tells you when to do that with a little light system.
I love that the Grofresh is creatively designed in colours that are sure to complement any home or kitchen making them both decorative and useful. We were sent a green Grofresh, but you can also get it in blue, yellow or white.
I’ve got to say I’m a bit of a geek, so really enjoyed a few minutes to myself putting this little beauty together!

How it works
The essential nutrients are mixed with the water and delivered directly to the plants root system several times a day by a pump in the base. As the plant doesn’t have to search for food and drink, it directs more energy to growing the part of the plant we see and enjoy, and not its roots, for faster and bigger growth.
There is a very detailed instruction booklet included to help you set up the grofresh kitchen garden and help you along your growing journey.
It thoroughly explains what to do if you are planting seeds or little plant plugs like I did. This made the whole process of putting it together fun and not stressful.
I planted lettuce plant plugs in my grofresh kitchen garden and enjoying them grow everyday.
I placed the unit in the back corner of my worktop. The biolite is on for 16 hours a day and off for 8 hours. It switches on and off automatically. By the grofesh logo on the unit is a little flashing light. If it’s flashing green every 30 seconds everything is fine. It will flash red if it needs water in the unit. There are also 3 pump modes determining how much water the plants need. You can move between each mode easily of required.
What can you grow?
Fresh aromatic herbs, spicy chili peppers, juicy cherry tomatoes or crisp salad greens.
