The kit contains everything you need to make your yogurt long term. The ceramic pots are fantastic. They are reusable time and time again, so cutting down on your use of single-use plastics. The pots have plastic lids with a rubber seal so your yogurt can stay airtight. On the two larger pots there is a date dial you can use so you know how long you have to use it once it’s refrigerated. The recommended use-by date is 6 days.

The Starter Kit

Alongside the Probio7 yogurt making kit, we received a starter kit containing 1x Probio7 Happy Gut bacteria sachet, 1x 1 litre carton of Jersey Holland UHT whole milk, a recipe booklet and a gorgeous glass milk bottle for mixing the milk and bacteria sachet. It’s a great starter kit to set you off on your yogurt making journey.

It’s worth pointing out that the recipe booklet has a great range of recipes to try, including some from The Lunchbox Doctor. These are great for the whole family. I can’t wait to make the carrot cake overnight oats for myself and the girls the chocolate yogurt dip!

Making Yogurt With The Starter Bacteria

It’s recommended that you pour boiling water into the ceramic pots and the mixing milk bottle to sterilise them first. After that, it is so easy to use the kit to make gut-friendly yogurt!

  • Pour the 1 litre carton of Jersey UHT whole milk and 1 sachet of the Probio7 Happy Gut bacteria starter into your glass mixing bottle. Next, make sure the lid is on tightly and shake until it’s thoroughly mixed. Pour evenly into your ceramic pots.

I then lifted the ceramic yogurt pots out of the machine, be careful as they were hot and let to cool before placing them in the fridge. Probio7 recommends refrigerating for 24 hours before consuming.

Why should you use Jersey UHT Whole Milk?

As a kid, my dad had a Jersey cow and she used to produce the most beautiful creamy yellow, and rich milk. It was far more superior than milk from other cow breeds. We loved it! Probio7 recommends using this type of milk as it has a wide range of benefits to overall health and wellbeing and I can totally see why!

Why should you use Jersey UHT Whole Milk to make homemade yogurt

Benefits include:

  • Rich in B vitamins which helps your brain function and energy levels
  • Contains more calcium than other breeds of cow milk
  • Rich in potassium which helps to maintain fluid balance in your body
  • Full of antioxidants
  • Contains zinc, which helps your immune system and metabolism function
  • It contains the A2 protein making it easier to digest

If you are on a vegan diet, the Jersey milk can be swapped out for soya milk.

Overall Thoughts

It was great fun making the yogurt and so easy to make. It can seem a bit pricey when you buy a month’s worth of milk and the Probio7 Healthy Gut starter bacteria, however, if you break down the costs it does work out around 78p per serving if you buy a one-off pack or 59p when you subscribe. You do get a lot of yogurt for your money! Also, you don’t have to buy the Jersey UHT milk cartons, you can use chilled fresh milk which can cut the cost down for you. But if you use chilled fresh milk its recommended to boil it first to achieve a richer creamier yogurt.

The yogurt we made was scrumptious, rich, creamy, and great tasting! I was amazed at how easy the process was to make it. Honestly, anyone could do it! My daughter enjoyed hers for breakfast with raspberries. She loved the individual pots which are the perfect size! I enjoyed mine with fresh berries and granola. We also popped some into a curry we were making! It lasted the full 6 days in the fridge and none was wasted. I would have preferred more than one sachet in the starter kit, but that’s because we got hooked on making yogurt!
