The next 5 months are busy for us! We are travelling with the kids to Wales on our first holiday since January 2020 and Dottie starts school! We also have the BlogOn Kids Conference to go before in July. The last time we travelled with the girls they were nearly 3 and just over 18 months old. It’s crazy! So I’ve been thinking up ideas and things to keep them busy while we are travelling by car.
I haven’t shared much about Dottie on here and her journey to getting diagnosed with autism, but unknown situations and transitions are tough for her. So we are going to be as prepared as we can for her for the car journeys and of course starting school. To help us we have these great children’s travel products from Over The Rainbow Books. They have a wide range of children’s books and products suitable for ages 3-10 years.
One product we received was the Peppa Pig Sunscreens, which are extremely useful when travelling by car in the Summer. They will keep your Peppa Pig fun amused with the cute designs. Dottie is a huge Peppa Pig fan. She is predominately non-verbal and says things out of context, but Peppa Pig is her thing. She can copy and recite back phrases from her favourite episodes. I’m of course Mummy Pig quite often! and her sister is George. I guess she thinks of herself as Peppa, which is about right as one of her favourite things to do is to jump in muddy puddles!
The Peppa Pig Sunscreens are a great value for money product. They have suction cups to make them easy to install and remove as required on your car windows. The mesh material helps to block out direct sunlight and keep the kids shaded whilst travelling but still allows for them to see through to the outside.
L loves colouring in and drawing, she wants to be an artist when she grows up! So the Unicorns Coluring Play Pack is ideal for travel. It has everything a kid will need in the pack to keep them busy. The pack contains 1 colouring pad, 1 mini colouring pad, 6 colouring pencils and a sheet of reusable stickers. It’s perfect for taking on holiday and it will be following us up and down the country this summer!
After the Summer fun is over, it will be getting Dottie ready for school. It only seems yesterday that she was born, 3 days after losing my dad. Then with the pandemic the past couple of years, the time has disappeared from us. Nevertheless the next few months we will be preparing her in the best way we can.
To help us with that Over The Rainbow Books have sent us a wonderful book called A Dragon Called Worry. It’s a storybook all about helping children with making new friends. It’s part of a series of books designed to help children and parents with common childhood worries. Due to Dotties autism and her communication and language skills I’m not sure how much she is taking in, but I have been showing her the beautiful illustrations and she loves dragons and hope that she is understanding some of it. It’s a book that we will keep revisiting time after time as her understanding develops.
