Achieving success at work is important for most people, no matter their role or responsibilities. When you’re working on the same premises as your colleagues, it’s easy to know what you need to do and to ask for help if you ever need it. However, when you work remotely, it’s largely your responsibility to set yourself up for success.
There are three key things you can do to stay motivated, boost your productivity, and generally have an enjoyable time working from home. In this article, we share our top tips.

Create a comfortable office space
You may already think of your home as a comfy space, but when it comes to having a spot that’s also conducive to work, you’ll likely have some tweaks and upgrades to make.
Sitting for extended periods can wreak havoc on your body, particularly if you find yourself slouching, or straining to see your work – so, it’s important to invest in ergonomic furniture that’ll help you to stay comfortable and prevent injuries. Similarly, you’ll want to ensure there’s ample natural light to prevent eye strain, and perhaps choose a specific room that you can turn into a home office so you can work without distractions.
Don’t forget that the finishing touches are equally important when it comes to creating a pleasant workspace – use lots of colour and texture to create an office that feels inspiring.
Stay in touch with colleagues
Few roles will require you to work totally autonomously, even if you’re working from home. For big projects, collaboration is often key to success, so you’ll want to do everything you can to forge great relationships with your colleagues.

It can be hard to connect with your coworkers when you don’t see them face to face. But, this shouldn’t prevent you from staying in touch. Most companies will have a platform they use to stay connected, arrange regular meetings, and maybe even host social events so that colleagues can get better acquainted.
Choose the right role
Staying productive at home is easy when you enjoy the work you do. But, if you’re dissatisfied with your job role, it can be easy to get distracted as you look for an opportunity to do anything but the work you’re supposed to be doing.
A great working space and positive workplace relationships will take you far, but unless you actually want to work, you’re unlikely to get your daily tasks completed. When applying for remote roles, take a moment to think about whether or not remote work is right for you – you should feel confident working alone and know any role you apply for is likely to fit your personality type.
Continuously improve your setup
Once you’ve chosen the right role, set up a great office space, and begun to connect with your colleagues, there’s nothing holding you back from excelling in your remote role. Be sure to regularly reflect on whether your setup is working for you and make adjustments as needed for a happy home working life.
