As a kid I was obsessed with The Wizard of Oz. Saturday afternoons we used to love to watch The Wizard of Oz with Judy Garland. It was one of those family favourites that you can watch over and over again.
So when I was presented with the opportunity to read and review The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum it was a given! No way was I going to refuse this one!
Here is a little bit about the book:
Book Description
“He is more powerful than all the rest of us together. He lives in the City of Emeralds.”
Blown far way from her home to the magical land of Oz, little Dorothy must follow the yellow-brick road to the Emerald City and ask the Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz for help. With the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and the Cowardly Lion by her side, Dorothy must first defeat the Wicked Witch of the West – but will the Wizard’s magic be enough to get her home?
My Review
It was great fun to go back and revisit the story of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz through this amazing book. It’s suitable for ages 8+ so too young for baby girl, but it will definitely be one I shall be reading to her when she’s older.
Dorothy lives on a farm with her Aunt Em in Kansas and one day she is whisked away in a tornado to the magical land of Oz. As soon as she arrives there her only wish is to return home. She is told she must go to the Emerald City to find The Wizard of Oz who can help to send her home. Along the way on the yellow brick road she meets the Scarecrow, Tinman and the Cowardly Lion. They all hope the Wizard will give them their desires.
My favourite part is when Dorothy saves the Scarecrow. He is one of the better characters and becomes one of Dorothy’s closest friends. All he want’s is for the Wizard of Oz to give him some brains!
I love that this book is a tale of friendship as well as the good versus evil, a timeless classic that all young children should have the chance to read.
This book is part of a 15 book box set, from Sweet Cherry Publishing but is perfect to be a standalone read.
The book cover illustration is fantastic, very pleasing to the eye and great for kids.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz deserves no less than 5 out of 5 stars.
I want to say a huge thanks to Boolino and Sweet Cherry Publishing for this delightful set of books.
