I’m a big kid at times and love to read young adult books. I found the front cover fascinating on What I Couldn’t Tell You by Faye Bird. It’s compelling, dark and mysterious. Totally right up my street!
So when I was asked to join the blog tour organised by Faye Rogers to read and review What I couldn’t tell you, I couldn’t say no.
When love turns to jealousy, when jealousy turns to rage, when rage turns to destruction…
Laura was head over heels in love with Joe. But now Laura lies in a coma and Joe has gone missing. Was he the one who attacked her?
Laura’s sister Tessie is selectively mute. She can’t talk but she can listen. And as people tell her their secrets, she thinks she’s getting close to understanding what happened on that fateful night.
It only took me a couple of days to read What I Couldn’t Tell You because it was hard to put down. A gripping thriller for a Young Adult novel. The author Faye Bird approaches the subject of selective mutism wonderfully. Personally I have never read anything on mutism so didn’t fully understand what it was. Now I have a good idea on the anxiety disorder.
At the start of the book we catch up with Joe and Laura. Almost immediately we are thrown into the attack on Laura. I did think that Laura was the main character from the book summary, but that isn’t so. It’s Tessie, Laura’s selectively mute sister. I don’t want to give the plot away as that’s not fair, but it kept me guessing all the way through.
Tessie cannot talk to her sister while she is in a coma and everyone tells her all these secrets that she cannot tell. So she actively listens and goes about trying to find out what happened on that night.
Mystery, intrigue, rage and love are the words I would use to describe What I Couldn’t Tell You.
I have given What I Couldn’t Tell you by Faye Bird 5 out of 5 stars
