Our book review for today is Hector’s Perfect Cake by Lily Clarke. An adorable badger who is baking a cake for his gran and he wants it to be perfect. However when he drops a jar of peanut butter he sets off to the shop to buy another, but things don’t go to plan as he goes off to hunt for the last jar.

Book Description
Hector is baking a cake for his Granny and he’s determined that it’s going to be perfect.
But when he discovers that the peanut butter jar is empty, Hector decides that he must head out to find some more, or else his perfect cake will be ruined.
As time begins to run out, Hector’s luck begins to run out too. He may have to accept that sometimes perfection just isn’t possible…
What I Thought
We absolutely adored this book. It’s bold, bright and perfectly illustrated. Look carefully at the illustrations to find more details in the background! The paragraphs are not to long so you will be able to keep the attention of a young child.
As a 4 year old, L doesn’t quite know what perfection is. But this has helped me to explain to her that we can all aspire to be perfect, but it’s not always possible, but that’s still totally fine. There are always unknown things that can test us and are out of our control. Therefore we must find ways around this. Hector learns this in the end.
A beautiful 5 star picture book read.
