Book Review & Tour: City of Drowned Souls by Chris Lloyd

Don’t you just love a great detective story?

Today I’m very pleased to be on the last day of the blog tour for City of Drowned Souls by Chris Lloyd. City of Drowned Souls is book #3 in the crime thriller Elisenda Domenech Series. The series revolves around Elisenda, a detective who has had a lot of recent troubles and heartache, who is constantly battling work colleagues and dealing with murder investigations.

Book Description

When a child disappears, the clock starts ticking
Detective Elisenda Domènech has had a tough few years. The loss of her daughter and a team member; the constant battles against colleagues and judges; the harrowing murder investigations… But it’s about to get much worse.

When the son of a controversial local politician goes missing at election time, Elisenda is put on the case. They simply must solve it. Only the team also have to deal with a spate of horrifically violent break-ins. People are being brutalised in their own homes and the public demands answers.

Could there be a connection? Why is nobody giving a straight answer? And where is Elisenda’s key informant, apparently vanished off the face of the earth? With the body count threatening to increase and her place in the force on the line, the waters are rising…

Be careful not to drown.

My Review

This is the first time I have heard of the Elisenda Domenech Series. I’m always on the look out for a new crime series and this one doesn’t disappoint. In fact it’s brings a fresh new look to the crime thriller genre, and is set in the Catalan City of Girona. The author Chris Lloyd writes brilliantly, using his local knowledge of the area to a T, you actually feel you are right there in the story.

I felt as if I wanted to get into the book and give Elisenda a hand. She has been through so much but is one strong lady, her colleagues are not sure she is coping too well due to past events, so she has to attend therapy sessions to keep her job.

What happen’s next is the son of a local politician disappears so she is called back in to help. The author shares with us lots of information on Catalan politics, clues and tit-bits which keeps the story moving along nicely.

It’s a fantastic guessing game!

Highly recommended for fans of Ian Rankin amd Val Mcdermid. Perfect for a lazy night in!

I have given City of Drowned Souls 4 out of 5 stars

Here are the other books in the Elisenda Domenech Series:

City of Good Death

City of Buried Ghosts
