9 Ways To Take Care of a Healthy Complexion in winter

9 Ways to Look After Your Skin in Winter

Winter is the time for being cosy, cuddling around a roaring fire, and having a cup of hot chocolate while you watch your favourite movie. However, Winter is the best time for your skin, and it can show if you don’t take the proper care.

Dry cold winds, lack of hydration and exercise, and even hot showers can all lead to your skin not looking and feeling its best. Giving yourself a good red light therapy is actually a great way of maintaining a healthy skin, the ones from Vital Red Light. Here are nine other ways to keep your skin healthy throughout Winter.

Moisturize

The first thing you need to do is to moisturize properly. Whether you are spending the day at home or taking off face makeup products, always remember to moisturize and rehydrate your skin.

Winter can be incredibly dry, especially if you live somewhere that gets very cold. Don’t mistake being cold and having freezing temperatures as a sign that the air is moist.

Keep Room Temperatures Comfortable

One mistake many people are guilty of is getting home and immediately switching their heating on as high as it can go to warm up again. While this will make you warm, very hot air is dry air.

Instead, turn the temperature up until you are comfortable. Keep your house temperature regulated to avoid drying any moisture that could benefit your skin.

Avoid Hot Baths/Showers

Are hot showers good for you? Well, this could be upsetting for some, but taking hot baths and showers daily is ruining your skin. Hot water causes your skin to dry out very quickly, and unless you moisturize entirely when you are finished, dry spots will form quite soon afterwards.

Instead, use lukewarm water when showering, bathing, or washing your hands. While you don’t have to freeze in the shower if lukewarm is too cold, simply ensure the water is warm enough to be comfortable.

Switch-Up Your Skincare Routine

Your skin has different needs depending on the season. In Winter, opt for products with fewer known chemicals and fragrances in them, as the chemicals will often dry your skin out. Also, avoid products that are moderate to high in alcohol.

Choose products that are highly moisturizing and contain natural ingredients. These will be far less harsh on your skin but will still give you the desired results.

Sunscreen

Winter doesn’t mean the sun can’t damage your skin. Therefore, don’t forget about it when you are about to head outside. Sunscreen moisturizes but also protects you against sun damage and lowers the chance of developing skin cancer.

Stay Hydrated

In Summer, when the sun is out all day, and it’s constantly warm, we drink water to cool down without thinking. However, once Winter hits, we tend to forget about water as we constantly look for something to heat us up.

Don’t make this mistake, as water is one of the best ways to hydrate your skin for the best winter complexion and keep it feeling and looking fresh.

Invest in a Humidifier

If you have a problem with your skin or struggle with breakouts or eczema, it would be a good idea to invest in a humidifier. A humidifier will fill your home or room with the much-needed moisture your skin will be craving.

While you don’t have to run it 24/7, if your skin is feeling dry or itchy, put it on and sit in the moist air for a while. It may take a couple of days to see results, but once you do, they will be relatively easy to maintain.

Limit Exfoliation

The purpose of exfoliation is to rid your face of dirt and oils; however, you will want to limit the number of times you exfoliate during the Winter. This is because those oils you are getting rid of protect your skin, and while you can still exfoliate every now and then, don’t use harsh products and be a bit more gentle than you usually would.

Diet

Finally, another great way to keep your skin healthy during Winter is to eat the right foods. Fatty fish, avocados, certain nuts, and a wide range of other foods can all maintain skin health.

Once again, there is no need to go overboard, especially if a lot of these foods are in your diet already. Instead, add a couple of them to your meals and enjoy the results of healthy Winter skin.
