You may remember last year we were introduced to Reading Chest and shared our thoughts with you here. Now as we are coming up to World Book Day on the 3rd March, I want to share with you how we’ve been getting on and why reading is very important for young people to discover and of course a love of books and the pleasure of reading.
As a reminder, Reading Chest is a book rental service for children learning to read. Sometimes schools can only allocate 1 or 2 books a week, and if you have an enthusiastic reader this probably isn’t enough. This is where the wonderful Reading Chest comes in. You can choose the exact reading band they are on at school and get books through the post to top up their reading. They offer 3 subscription packages depending on how many books you need each month. You first get an initial delivery of 4 or 6 reading books depending on the subscription, then when they are finished simply return them in the pre-paid envelope provided. All you have to do then is wait for more to arrive! It’s a really quick service as well, they will arrive in no time!
Why is reading is very important for young people?
Reading is just amazing! It’s extremely beneficial for children. It not only helps to build their vocabulary and feed their imagination, but it can help with their self-esteem and relaxation and of course fun! As an avid reader myself, I find reading so much fun!
How we’ve been getting on with Reading Chest
We love Reading Chest, it couldn’t be easier to use. We return our books on the school run to the post box when needed! Over the last year, L has grown massively in her reading confidence. She now loves to read by herself as well as me listening to her. When L got her first book delivery last year she was on the blue/green band and now she’s moved up to gold. Which is fantastic for Year 1! She always has her head in a book! As a parent, you can be so much more involved with your child’s reading. You can log on to your account together and choose the books you want to read. You can choose one or more book schemes. L has a love of the Biff, Chip and Kipper series so that’s our go-to!
We have had nothing but great service from Reading Chest and would highly recommend it. It’s been a great boost for her reading and her confidence. Plus getting book post is extremely exciting!
