5 Creative Learning Ideas For Children

Give your child the time to learn and get creative at home, with these fun activities that you can arrange at home. There are multiple ways for children to reach the same goal with their creations – giving the space to do so is key to their development and allowing them to be inquisitive. Getting stuck in with creative learning ideas for kids will keep them busy and also help with their development.

I’ve teamed up with a boys school in London to give you 5 creative ideas you can try with your kids this summer!

Creative Learning Ideas For Children

1. Pasta art

A classic for most children, making art with pasta shapes, is a fun way of making funky shapes with glue. But you can also add paint into the mix and colour in different parts of the child’s canvas. Cut and glue activities in all forms are great for a child’s fine motor skills and hand coordination.

2. Coloured salt art

All you need for this activity is salt, food colouring, and glue. Let your child choose the colours to help them with their critical thinking, and to give them control over the activity. Then mix these colours into the salt to make different colour salt, add glue to a piece of paper or card and add the salt to the page. Children can use their creativity to make wonderful works of art using a range of colours.

3. Board games

A lot of board games require strategic thought and decision-making on the spot. Whether you’re playing Cluedo or Monopoly, or even a card game, your child is practicing how to make their next move that will maximise their turn. There’s also a multitude of outcomes that can happen in board games that will keep everyone on their toes.

4. Role play games

Games where people assume a role of a person are good for showing children how to interpret different thoughts and feelings. Investigative games are some of the most popular, where children have to find out who has committed the crime among the players. Escape rooms and laser tag days are also exciting for kids, learning how to think tactically and reach a goal against the time limit.

5. Water play

A fun activity regardless of your child’s age is water play. You can use an inflatable pool in your garden and use cups and jugs for children to understand the flow of water and gravity. If children are more advanced, a trip to the swimming pool will test their muscle memory and fine motor skills as they learn to swim or play with toys in deeper waters.
