There is a certain roundabout I drive every day on the nursery run. It’s one that I’ve nearly been hit a few times on. And every time it’s been because of people driving straight through when the lights are on red. I have no idea why people do it, is it because they are distracted, in a rush or just not concentrating? Either way, it’s pretty scary at times. When it comes to protecting myself, and my car a dash cam has come in very useful. I was kindly sent a Nexar Beam GPS Car Dash Cam to review.

About the Nexar Beam GPS Dash Cam
Before I share my thoughts here is a little more detail about the Nexar Beam GPS. It’s a sleek and compact plug-and-play dash cam that can easily be concealed behind the rear-view mirror.
It records in crisp clear 1080p full HD video with its wide lens and 135-degree field of view. It will sense even the slightest impact on your vehicle with its built-in G-sensor. It will immediately start recording footage when the sensor is triggered even when parked! Footage can be downloaded to the user’s smartphone as soon as it connects to the dash cam so can be viewed immediately; offering true peace of mind. The built-in GPS module can link the location of the vehicle to the footage. This can then be used as vital evidence for claims or insurance purposes with users being able to access the required footage easily and quickly.
Nexar has developed its own proprietary software and the companion app allows for live streaming of all video footage directly to your phone and uses AI to detect important moments and save them as easy-to-find clips. Incidents can be reported and files shared and viewed immediately with an insurance company or the police through the app. The footage is backed up to the cloud without any limits, and all of it is incredibly easy to use and navigate around.
Additional info
The Nexar Beam GPS comes with a free 32GB microSD card already installed but users can opt to upgrade to a bigger capacity with up to 256GB. Best of all, though, Nexar offers completely unlimited cloud backups without a subscription, so drivers can avoid the extra cost and have the same ability to save any video to the cloud. Ideal if the dash cam is ever stolen or damaged, as footage can still be viewed and accessed from anywhere. The video clips can be wrapped together with important data into a report and uploaded immediately using a one-click report function. Additionally, Siri voice command may be used to send messages to others whilst on the road in the Nexar Groups app which will show the location if the driver is delayed.
Nexar is compatible with the iPhone 7 and above. Samsung Galaxy/S/Note 8 and above | Google Pixel 3 and below | OnePlus 5 and above | Xiaomi: Redmi Note 5, Redmi 5 Plus, Mi 8, Mi A2 | LG: G6 and above.
What’s In The Box?
In the box, you get the Nexar Beam camera, GPS suction cup mount, a USB charger that goes into your 12v, 11.5 ft USB power cable and an installation tool and 4 sticky back cable clips. Plus instruction booklets.
My Thoughts
It really is a nifty little device. Easy to set up and pair with the app on your smartphone. We’ve only had it set up for a couple of days, but so far very impressed. It’s great to have a dash cam in the car. It will give you peace of mind for sure, I will say fingers crossed I never have to use the footage! The dash cam will only work if paired with the Nexar App. So please bear this in mind when deciding if this is the one for you.
It will work only when connected to a power source. A car power adapter and cable-hiding kit are included. I would have preferred it if it had its own battery to charge up.
You do have to have some kind of phone signal, Bluetooth and your location enabled at all times on your smartphone. Living down here in Cornwall, there are a fair few spots with no signal so this is a slight negative for me.
We did find we had to go into the app to start the dash cam, it does not record automatically when the car is switched on. This can be time-consuming and when you are in a rush, on the school run this is not feasible for a busy mum like me.
One great positive is that when you buy the dash cam, it also covers the lifetime use of the Nexar app, cloud storage, and network. There are no additional costs involved. The video footage is very clear.
A fantastic feature which is useful if you are like me and forgets where you have parked is that the Nexar can show you on the app your parking location. Open the app or simply ask Siri “Where did I Park?” and you will be navigated to your car!
If you are looking for a dash cam that is easy to install, small and doesn’t impede your view, with footage backed up to the cloud, then the Nexar Beam GPS could be the one for you.
