This week my Word for the Week is Night-Time.
Before I had baby girl, sleep was very sacred to me. 8 or 9 hours sleep a night was completely normal to me. I was also a very heavy sleeper and nothing would wake me.
Isn’t it funny how your body changes to accomodate a new little person in your life?
Now my sleep cycle is completely out of wack. Night-Time is not the same anymore! The first few weeks baby girl was actually a very good sleeper, I was getting 3/4 hour blocks of sleep. Then the dreaded reflux kicked in! Poor baby girl, she could not get comfortable lying on her back. We rose her mattress slightly at one end but that did not help at all. The only way she would get comfortable and able to sleep was lying upright on my chest. I have spent a few weeks sleeping upright. She loved the skin to skin contact as well, its very soothing and calming to her.
The past week her reflux is much better, hopefully she is growing out of it, fingers crossed. In fact lst night she slept for nearly four hours. Then we did a nappy change and a sleepy feed and then she was back to sleep again. She is much comfortable lying on her back agin now as well.
There is something very special about Night-Time feeds. It’s that magical 2/3am time when all is quiet. I would not change my previous sleep life for anything. To see baby girl’s sleepy smile at night is worth all those glorious undisturbed sleeps. (New mummy – sleep deprived, still basking in new baby arrival, opinions my change after months of sleep deprivation!)
