When a homeowner has a leaking roof, it can be a costly repair if you do not address it immediately. Water leaking in through your roof can cause a lot of damage to your home and cause problems such as damp. When you find your roof is leaking, you will want to have it fixed as quickly as possible, but there are times when it is not feasible for the roofing company to visit your home immediately. In these cases, you will need to make a temporary repair that will help keep the water at bay until your chosen roofing company can come and fix the roof of your home.

Use A Tarp
When you have a leak in your roof and are waiting for the roofing company to visit, you will want to do what you can to reduce any water from getting inside your home. A simple way to do this is to use a tarp on your roof to cover the hole if you know where it is. You will need ladders to get on your roof, and you will also have to find a way to secure the tarp to the roof until the problem is fixed. However, if you live in an area with high winds, this may not be a suitable solution, so you will want to try something else.
Use Plastic Cement
A house roof can be made from many different materials, and the cost of repairs can vary drastically. If you have a slate roof and have called a Sydney slate roofing company or a roofing specialist in your area, if you live elsewhere, you can use plastic cement as a temporary fix. The plastic cement is suitable for small holes in your roof and is an excellent quick fix that will stop water from penetrating your home and causing further damage.
Use Roofing Tape
You can also use roofing tape to make a temporary repair and stop water from penetrating your roof. You can purchase roofing tape in many DIY stores, and you can often not have to climb a ladder onto your roof to use it. You will usually apply the roofing tape on the inside of the roof, allowing you to repair it from inside the attic. Depending on where the leak in your roof is, you may need a small ladder in your attic to ensure you can reach the leak properly. However, this is one of the most long-lasting and durable temporary fixes you can do, so it will last until your roofing company arrives to repair your leak.
A Temporary Shingle

If a damaged shingle causes the leak in your roof, you can craft a temporary repair no matter what the shingles are made from that will last till the experts arrive. Remove the damaged shingle and use it as a template to create a new one out of wood or metal. Try and get it as close to the original size as possible, so it fits snuggly, and this should suffice until your roofing company arrives.
