I’m late to the game and have only recently got Netflix. Yeah I know it’s bad, isn’t it?? But don’t worry I’m making up for lost time and getting stuck in to watch some of the fantastic shows right now! Here I’m going to discuss some of my favourite historical shows to watch on Netflix, but of course, I love to hear your opinions and suggestions to add to the planner.
The Crown
OK, I’m starting with The Crown. I’m a huge fan of the Royal family and love to watch them on my Sony TV. The other weekend I was in tears watching Prince Philip’s funeral. It was something extraordinary to see the military procession, and I was glad to have our large 52” TV screen to watch it on.
The Crown is one of Netflix’s biggest budget dramas to date. You get to delve straight in and watch all about the personal lives of the Royal family. I’m only on series 3 so far but it’s fantastic! The latest episode I watched was “Aberfan”. It was heartbreaking to watch the disaster that happened there.
There are 4 seasons in total at the moment but they are currently casting for the next 2 series and it’s predicted season 5 will air in 2022. These last two seasons will bring the Queen’s reign up into the 21st century.
Bridgerton
Bridgerton is the historical drama most currently talked about. Set in Regency London, this show follows Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family in her quest to find a suitable husband. It’s produced by Shondra Rhimes, who created my favourite medical show Grey’s Anatomy, so you get the American touch with the gossip, glitz and glamour. This is one show I want to watch after I’ve finished The Crown.
Poldark
Set here in Cornwall, Poldark tells the story of Ross Poldark, an Army officer who returns to England after fighting in the American War of Independence. On his return he discovers that his fiancee Elizabeth had thought he was dead and has since moved on and married his cousin. It’s a wonderful series with lots of Cornish coastline to see. One of my favs!
