If you’re anything like me, you spend most of your day making sure everyone else is fed first… and then suddenly it’s 3 pm, and you realise you’ve basically survived on coffee and the odd biscuit or leftover crust!
Which is why I’m writing this article for the sort of days in question.
Adding a bit more protein doesn’t have to mean complicated meal plans or cooking separate “healthy” meals. These are simple, family-friendly quick wins you can slot into your normal routine. And they’re especially handy if you’ve got a tub of Pea Protein in the cupboard and want easy ways to use it.

Why I love these quick protein boosts
Protein can help you stay full for a longer time and maintain more stable energy levels (something that is extremely useful when you’re looking after school runs, working, and dealing with the constant requests for snacks). Since pea protein is a plant-based option that mixes easily into ordinary foods, it’s one of those things you can just add and forget about and it’s appropriate for everyone.
I also really like that the Unflavoured Naked Pea contains no artificial sweeteners, flavours, or colours. It means it’s easy to blend into things you’re already making, especially anything with fruit or other flavoured ingredients.

1) The 2-minute breakfast smoothie
Smoothies are the easiest place to start because you can throw everything in, blend, and you’re done.
- Add your milk of choice (dairy, oat, almond, whatever you already buy)
- Add a scoop of Naked Pea Protein.
- Add fruit (fresh or frozen)
- Add something creamy (yoghurt, or a banana)
Family-friendly flavour combos
- Banana + peanut butter + milk (honestly tastes like a milkshake)
- Frozen berries + yoghurt + a drizzle of honey
- Chocolate smoothie: banana + cocoa + milk (great if you want a more “treat” vibe)
Here’s a little tip: when you have clumps, mix the protein with the liquid first and then add the fruit.
2) Upgrade porridge or overnight oats (cosy, filling, and easy)
If your mornings are busy, porridge and overnight oats are such a help. They’re really easy to boost with protein.
How to do it
- Porridge: make it as normal, then stir the protein in at the end.
- Overnight oats: mix it in when you prep the jar the night before.
Easy flavour ideas kids usually accept
- Blueberry – my girls love the colour of this one!
- Apple + cinnamon
- Banana + a few chocolate chips
- Strawberry jam swirl (a tiny spoon of jam mixed through works wonders)
This is one of my favourites on school-run mornings because it keeps me going until lunchtime without feeling like I need to snack constantly.

3) The “protein yoghurt bowl” snack (perfect for after school)
This is such a good one for those afternoons while everyone’s hungry, and you want something that actually fills them up.
Quick method
- Mix Naked Pea Protein into thick yoghurt (Greek-style – my choice, or a thick plant yoghurt)
- Add toppings your family already likes
Topping ideas
- Sliced banana and berries
- Granola
- A drizzle of maple or honey syrup
If you’ve got kids who love a “special snack”, you can even serve it as a little yoghurt sundae in a small bowl or cup.
4) Batch pancakes you can freeze (weekend win, weekday lifesaver)
If you like doing one easy batch-cook at the weekend, pancakes are brilliant. You can make a stack, freeze them, and then you’ve got quick breakfasts and snacks ready to go.
Easy ways to use protein here
- Add a scoop of Naked Pea Protein to your usual pancake mix.
- Alternatively, include it in banana pancakes if that’s your preferred choice.
Serving ideas
- Peanut butter and sliced banana
- Yoghurt and berries
- A little maple syrup
Freezer tip: Freeze pancakes between pieces of baking paper so they don’t stick together, then pop them in the toaster to reheat.
5) “Emergency protein” in drinks you already make (coffee or hot chocolate)
This one is for the times when you’re preparing a snack for everybody else and then realise that you haven’t eaten anything yourself.
Easy options
- Iced coffee: shake coffee + milk + protein in a jar or bottle
- Hot chocolate vibe: warm milk + cocoa + protein (warm is better than boiling)
It feels like a treat, but it’s also a genuinely helpful way to get something more substantial in when you’re rushed.
A few quick tips if you’re new to pea protein, which is helping us
- Start small: if you’re unsure about taste/texture, start with half a scoop and build up.
- Use flavour helpers: banana, berries, cocoa, cinnamon and vanilla are your trusted companions!
- Shake or blend thoroughly: particularly when preparing drinks – shaking them quickly in a bottle makes a big difference.

Final thoughts
If you want to add more protein without overthinking it, pick one idea from this list and try it for a week. My easiest go-tos are the overnight oats and the yoghurt bowl. They’re quick, family-friendly, and don’t require extra cooking.
If you try any of these, let me know which one becomes your new favourite (I love hearing what works in real homes!).
