The study’s findings came with an important qualification. Benefits appeared most clearly in people who had been drinking less water before the trial. For those already consuming adequate fluids, the additional intake produced minimal visible changes.

However, when researchers isolated high-quality studies and excluded industry-funded research, the apparent benefits disappeared. The meta-analysis concluded that clinical evidence does not currently support using collagen supplements to prevent or treat skin aging. People seeking better hydration should probably spend their money elsewhere.
Signs Your Skin Needs More Hydration
Pinch the skin on the back of your hand. If it snaps back immediately, hydration levels are likely adequate. If it returns slowly, you may need more fluids.
Skin that feels tight after washing often needs hydration. This sensation indicates the barrier has been disrupted and water is escaping. Flaking without redness typically points to dehydration rather than a skin condition.
Makeup settling into fine lines happens more frequently on dehydrated skin. The lines themselves may be dehydration lines rather than true wrinkles, and they improve with adequate fluid intake.
