Over 60s Dating – Tips for Dating Later in Life

Both my mum and mother in law are widows and lost their husbands 4 and 5 years ago next month. I have asked them if they would ever consider dating later in life, and at the moment it’s still too raw for them. Never say never though! Why not? It’s never too late! Everyone deserves a happy life and getting into the over 60s dating scene might be a good thing to do. So I have had a read around and come up with tips on dating later in life.

Over 60s Dating - Tips for Dating Later in Life

Are you ready?

I guess the first thing to ask yourself is are you ready? Are you ready to move into a new relationship? Do you seek physical comfort? Want a person to share your hopes and fears with. Only you will know when you are ready.

Where can you meet new people?

There are many places you could meet new people. From things like joining your local coffee mornings, a book group at the library, online at 60dating.com, starting a new course at your local college, through mutual friends, or getting into keeping fit with a walking group. There are many places to make new friends. Dive bars and yoga coffee shops are two other places where you can meet older people interested in dating. Just be confident, open-minded, and give it a go!

Online dating is now one of the most common places to meet new people. I should know, I met my husband online back in 2008. It was pretty nerve-wracking at first, but here we are 14 years later married with two gorgeous girls. Both of us took a leap, trusted our instincts and could not be happier. One tip I would say is to get to know who you are messaging, take it slow before talking on the phone and face to face. When you meet up for the first time, make sure it’s in a public place like a coffee shop and tell someone where you are going. Staying safe online is really important as there are many ways you can be targeted by fraudsters.

With online dating, it’s best to research and find a website that suits you. There are many to choose from and can range from specialist sites like lesbian, gay, or bisexual partner. Or dating sites with specific interests, or ethnicity. And when it comes to go on your first date, wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident is the way to go. Finding mature fashion doesn’t mean you must sacrifice fun or style.

Talking to friends and family

A good tip is to talk to your family and friends about why you want to try dating again. Grown-up children may find this hard to accept at first due to the fact they don’t want their other parent replaced. This can also be a very sensitive subject if there is a bereavement involved. You may find that once it’s all talked over, they will be happy for you.
