Trying To Conceive? – 5 Things That Can Help

Trying to conceive can be a real challenge, but some things can make the process go more smoothly. Find out what they are below.

Have sex when ovulating

Many people think that the more sex they have the better when it comes to trying to get pregnant. But it’s a bit more complicated than that. This is because there are only a few days a month a woman gets conceived. These days are during what is known as ovulation. This is when an egg from the female’s ovary has been released.

The good news is you can track your ovulation to find out when the best time to have sex to get pregnant is. Usually, it’s around day 14 of the menstrual cycle. Still, everyone is different and by tracking your specific hormones you will get a much more accurate idea of when you are ovulating.

Come off any hormonal contraception

If you are TTC (trying to conceive) then hormonal contraception will be a major barrier for that. The issue here is that unlike contraception such as condoms, or the diaphragm hormonal contraception takes time to leave your system. This means it’s doubtful that you will be able to conceive as soon as you stop taking it. Instead, you must allow your body some time to restore normal hormone levels and cycles.

Check both partner’s fertility

Fertility is the likelihood that neither parent can contribute to conception, and it’s a good idea to test this when you are TTC because if there are any issues you can do something about them.

For instance, if the male partner has fertility issues then you can find some tips for getting pregnant with low sperm count online. Alternatively, if it’s the woman that is struggling with fertility several things can be done including taking medication like metformin that can help ensure a proper cycle and ovulation, thereby raising fertility levels.

Start taking the right supplements

Last of all, if you are TTC then it’s a good idea to make sure you get a head start on taking the right supplements. In particular, Folic Acid is recommended both for those who are TTC and females who are already pregnant in the 1st and 2nd trimesters.

The reason that Folic Acid is so important for those TTC and those in the first two trimesters is that it significantly reduces the risk of defects that may cause miscarriage such as issues with the brain and spine.

Prioritise your mental health

It’s very easy for those trying to conceive to become completely obsessed with the process. However, it is important to note two things here. First of all, stress will only make the process of TTC harder, and secondly, your mental health and your relationship with your partner can suffer in this situation.

With that in mind, if you are TTC it’s a good idea to make sure that you have strategies in place to help maintain good mental health such as journalling, meditating and doing yoga. You may even wish to join a support group. Additionally, ensure you spend quality time with your partner who is not related to TTC, thereby strengthening your relationship.
