The Best Ways to Take Care of Your Jewelry

When you are selecting jewelry, you usually do it with great care because of the value it has. To ensure that your jewelry remains stunning, you have to be vigilant about how you take care of them.

Whether it be cleaning techniques or storage solutions, here are some of the five things you need to do to make sure that your jewelry is well taken care of.

The Best Ways to Take Care of Your Jewelry

Regular Cleaning is Key

Over time your jewelry is going to accumulate a lot of residue, and dirt. This can leave most jewelry with a very dull appearance. This is why regular cleaning is important if you want to maintain the shine and sparkle of your jewelry. Different types of jewelry require different cleaning methods.

If you have gold or platinum pieces then you can clean it by soaking the jewelry in warm water with a few drops of the mildest dish soap that you can find. You can then use a small toothbrush or a soft brush to scrub away any dirt or grime that may be present. Be sure to rinse the jewelry clean with some warm water.

Silver is going to tarnish over time so you must clean it regularly by using a silver polishing cloth or a gentle silver cleaner to remove any tarnish that is present. Try not to use abrasive materials as this will scratch the surface badly.

Store Your Jewelry Properly

One of the things you can do to make sure that everything goes well for your jewelry is to store it as properly as you can. The conditions that you have it in should prevent scratches, tangles or any other form of damage.

One of the most practical things you can do is have a jewelry box. This jewelry box should have separate compartments for different pieces to keep them organized and protected. Make sure the compartments are soft  this will help to prevent damages especially when you have those high value items.

Try to store silver separately from other jewelry. This is because silver should always be stored in airtight bags to prevent them from tarnishing. When it’s exposed to air it’s going to accelerate that tarnishing so keeping it sealed off from the environment is going to prevent this from happening.

Make sure that you are keeping chains untangled. You could do this by hanging your necklaces individually or storing them in separate compartments from each other.

Avoid Wearing Jewelry in Water or During Physical Activities

Remember that chemicals, water and physical activity are all and “no no” for your jewelry because they can damage it you know in a big way. It’s best to remove jewelry in situations where you’re going to be heading into the water.

You should try to avoid water exposure altogether or take off your jewelry before you shower, wash your dishes or go swimming, leave the glam for when you get out of the pool or the ocean. Your jewelry will thank you for it.
