Winter can be long, dark, and cold and makes you want to just stay inside the house under a warm blanket. Unfortunately, humans weren’t made to hibernate for the colder months. This means that to properly enjoy the winter we need to get outside and do things. The yard is the perfect place to take part in some winter activities since it is at home and you can come in and warm up in an instant.
The trick is knowing what to do outside in winter. Luckily, there are plenty of activities you can do in the yard in the winter. In this article, we will go over several ways to get through the winter by having fun in the yard.

1 – Host a party
Yes, you can host a party in the yard even when there is snow on the ground. In fact, it can be quite fun to have a party in the winter since it is so different. As long as things are planned well then you can get a lot out of the season when you host a get-together.
Try to start out by figuring out ways to keep people warm outside. There are heaters that go outside like the ones that you see at restaurants with patios that get used even when the weather gets chilly. A couple of those will help people warm up when they start feeling a chill in their bones.
Having things to do to keep people moving will also help keep them warm. For instance, if there are going to be kids there then having things for them to jump around with works great. There are backyard bounce houses that can be used even in the winter which will keep the kids from staying still for long.
Serve hot drinks such as mulled cider for the kids and mulled wine for the adults and that will keep them warm for a while.
2 – Stargazing
The cold air keeps the atmosphere thin as opposed to the summer when humidity builds up and causes the night sky to look unclear. This means that winter is the ideal time to take a look at the planets and stars at night.
You can set up a telescope in the yard and see the planets very clearly. All you need is to bundle up and have a hot chocolate waiting for you inside when you are done stargazing.
3 – Observe nature
It may seem like nature takes a break in the winter but the reality is that there is a lot going on that you don’t really notice. A great way to enjoy the yard in the winter is to head out and observe what nature is up to. For instance, you can set up a bird feeder that will attract winter birds to your yard. You will see cardinals and other interesting birds that come to feed.
There are usually animals passing through your yard at night that go unnoticed. When there is snow on the ground you will see the evidence. Take some time to observe the paw prints and try to identify the various creatures that pass through your yard.
