Get Prepared

Before starting on any job it is important that you have everything you need to allow it to go smoothly. Whether you need to stock up on bin bags, build up boxes or plan ahead and book your skip online, it is vital that you get organized ahead of time.

Not only will this ensure that the process is as simple and straightforward as possible, but it prevents you from being able to find excuses or reasons to prolong this job.

Work Through The House Systematically

There is no benefit in attacking the whole house at the same time. All you will end up doing is creating chaos and not making the process a lot more stressful than it needs to be. In order to make the process as simple as possible, you want to work through each room one at a time to declutter properly.

Once the room has been selected you then need to identify where to begin. Always start with the worst and most cluttered area in that particular room. By doing this you will sort out the worst job and the room will only continue to get easier and easier, and you won’t find your enthusiasm dwindling as fast and stress mounting.

In addition to organizing each room, determine which items need temporary storage. It can help you keep the space organized and manageable while you work on decluttering. To prevent clutter from accumulating and ensure that your workspace remains tidy and efficient throughout the entire decluttering process, use storage bins or boxes to store items you may decide to keep or donate later on in the process.

Limit Your Time

There is nothing worse and more disheartening than having a big job ahead of you and feeling as though you have lost your whole day to it. No matter how big the job realistically is, setting a time limit will ensure that you keep momentum and enthusiasm.

In reality, it is like reverse psychology on yourself. If you know your time is limited and you have to get as much done as possible, something in your mind clicks and you somehow manage to achieve the impossible.

Have A System

When you need to declutter you want to create a system where you can systematically work through your items. To do this successfully you want to use boxes or create piles.

By doing this you will be able to easily identify what you are keeping and what you will keep easily accessible for continued daily use, what you are keeping but will be putting into storage, and what items you will get rid of.

As you start collecting items that you will be clearing out, it is worth determining from them which items are for the bin, such as broken items and which items you can either sell or give to charity.
