Today I have a lovely children’s book review and giveaway on the blog. Theo’s Ocean Discovery by Mary Ryan and illustrated by Emma Dovey is an adorable educational book about the effects of plastic pollution in the sea. Read on for our review and the chance to win your own copy.

Book Description
Theo, an explorer and treasure collector, discovers that his treasure is not quite what it seems. He learns a valuable lesson and understands how the disposal of plastic in the ocean can be devastating.

What We Thought
Theo is a bright and colourful fish who loved to collect treasures in the ocean. What he doesn’t know is that the treasures are dangerous to him and his ocean friends. Until one day while out treasure hunting, he becomes trapped by a piece of treasure that looks like a jellyfish. Thankfully his friends help him escape and explain to him that his treasure is plastic and very harmful to aquatic life.
We really enjoyed this book. My daughter is 5 years old and a very good reader, so this was perfect for her to read. It made her very curious about ocean pollution, so I found it an ideal accompaniment to explain to her why plastic is harmful to our waters.
The illustrations are wonderful and help to tell the story, which is perfect for younger readers. It’s very well written with short sentences and phrases that younger children can understand and will keep their attention span.
We are giving Theo’s Ocean Discovery a 5 out of 5 stars for its important story and educational value.
Thanks to Austin Macauley for our copy.
