On Christmas Eve I decided to turn my laptop off and have a wonderful few days off enjoying baby girl’s first Christmas. On boxing day I did a quick check of my emails and discovered that my blog had been hacked. They hadn’t got in through my username and password, but through a plugin I wasn’t using and had not updated. They had somehow injected malware into my blogs core files. My stress levels were about to reach breaking point.
I’m writing this today to share with you what I have learned from getting hacked, and hopefully help with some tips so the same doesn’t happen to you. It’s a very unpleasant experience, I felt violated. My blog is only about family topics and what not, it’s a baby fish in a the huge sea, so why would a heartless hacker want in?
The Summer holidays are all but over now. I don’t know why but I love September because it never seems that long until Christmas! My roundup and bucket list this month will be showcasing my favourite post from August, and my to-do list for September.
August has been about preparing baby girl for the dreaded return to work. I return at the start of October. It’s all be confirmed now as I have been in to have a chat with my manager. I worked out a little back to work plan for myself as well. To help ease us into the process. For 8 weeks I will be working only 3 days a week and taking the other 2 as holiday, which I have accumulated while being off. That will take me up to the start of December.
It’s hard to believe August is here already. The start of a new month means it’s time for the monthly roundup and bucket list. July has been a crazy month. With our first family holiday and my husband’s Nan’s 100th Birthday. My older sister coming over from Canada to meet baby girl for the first time, and the biggest thing for my blog was going self hosted. I have the photo of the 100th birthday cake here in My Sunday Photo
It really has been a crazy month and I know I’m a few days late writing this as all 3 of us have had terrible Summer colds so haven’t felt the best.
So we have started the weaning journey which you can read about in baby girl’s 6 Month Review. It’s a fun journey seeing what she likes and doesn’t, the messy face and hands! We were given some Out of Date Mates to review and these help organise your jars and pouches to know what you opened when. A money-saving lifesaver for weaning.
I have finally taken the plunge to go self hosted. Little me with my tiny blog in a world with gazillions of other blogs. Fighting the way through for decent page views, visitor numbers and of course doing everything known to man to try to increase my DA.
So this is my account of what it’s like to go self hosted and why I did.
It’s been over 14 months since I started blogging. I chose to go on blogger as it was very simple to set up for a newbie like me. I don’t have a lot of web experience so the simpler they better.
Now 14 months later I felt as if I had out grown my blog. I wanted to add bits that you are unable to do on blogger. During my 14 months there I have changed my them and header design a few times but you are just limited with what you can do.
