7 Hints and Tips On Packing your Hospital bags

Welcome back to another 7 Hints and Tips post. This week I am giving some tips on what to pack in you and your baby’s hospital bags. It has felt like I have had mine packed for ages in hope of her arriving just before her due date. Here I am at 40+4 still waiting with my bags packed at the bottom of the stairs.
Mine has been packed since 34 weeks!

To-Do List: Preparing for a Baby

As a first time mum to be, I have been reading various articles on how to prepare for your new arrival. Some things I have read seem a bit extravagant so I have decided to come up with my own simpler list, and thought I would share it with you. Hopefully helping other new mums coming along after me.

Word of the Week 23/01/2016

Well it’s the end of another week and my baby girl still hasn’t arrived yet. I am 40 weeks on Monday and very impatient. Which is this week’s Word of the Week – Impatient.
I feel as if I have been waiting forever now. Looking back at last weeks Word of the Week which was Nesting, and my lack of it! I have to say that I think it is starting to kick in now. I woke up at about half past four this morning thinking about cleaning the window sills in the nursery, it was very strange. So that is what I have been up to this afternoon – cleaning around the windows and sills!
Hopefully this urge in cleaning means she is on the way. My patience is wearing thinner by the day! I am so excited and cannot wait to meet her and see her little face.
Maybe next week…………

Word of the Week 15/01/2016

My word for this week is Nesting. As you know from last weeks Word of the Week I am waiting for the birth of my first baby. I am now nearly 39 weeks and still waiting! but this week I thought i would pick the word Nesting for my #WotW, although waiting still applies!
So apparently most pregnant women go through some sort of nesting phase before the birth of their little one. I am not sure I fit into that category as I haven’t had that nesting feeling, or so I think! A few weeks back my husband and I got the nursery ready, I washed, folded and put away all her little clothes. I have double and triple checked my hospital bag. Does this count as nesting?
I always thought nesting was cleaning and scrubbing every surface possible but that part hasn’t come to me (yet!). I really don’t have the energy to clean out the fridge or mop the kitchen floor. Nesting is a natural way of preparing and protecting your unborn baby from the outside world.
I would love to hear what were your nesting habits? if you had any.
There is an old wives tale that when nesting urges begin labour is about to come on. So maybe my little girl isn’t ready to come yet! I hope this isn’t true as I am getting really fed up with waiting. I have been on maternity leave for two weeks now ( I had 4 weeks holiday to use up from work before that) so I am all out of waiting now. It is the most exciting thing in life to wait for and I am so eager to meet my baby girl.
Maybe next week I will have a completely different Word of the Week!

Word of the Week 08/01/2016

I have a very exciting start to the New Year as I’m waiting to become a mummy for the first time! My due date is the 25th January so time is getting closer now. I am getting very impatient now as I can’t wait to see her little face – I’m soooooooo excited! So my word of the week has to be Waiting.

It feels like I’ve been pregnant for ever. I know I will miss her little kicks and punches when she leaves my tummy but having her in my arms is something I’m looking forward to very much as we have been trying for two and a half years for her. So it has been such a long waiting game for us but the end is in sight very soon.
There you have it, Waiting is my first Word of the Week for the year and I hope you will join in every week on my journey as a first time mummy through Word of the Week.
Thanks very much to thereadingresidence for hosting this great Word of the Week linky #WotW

Looking Back Over 2015

2015 has been a very up and down year for me but there are a few things that have turned the year around. It was back in March that I started my little blog up. I had a very trying January and February so decided to take my mind off things by starting blogging. I wasn’t quite sure where my niche would be in the world of blogging, so I decided to blog about what I love to do and that is entering competitions, reading any type of book and gardening. So Book Lover, Competition Addict and Gardening Enthusiast was born. I am still not 100% happy with the name so that is something I’m going to work on this year.

I have won lots of competitions throughout this year as feel so lucky to have done so, although around the summer I took a bit of a comping break due to the severe morning sickness I had and the tiredness that crept upon me.
Which leads me on to the best part of 2015 and that was finding out I was pregnant with our first baby – a girl!
She could arrive any day now that I’m 37 weeks so the word excitement is very understated at the moment!
As soon as I hit my second trimester I began to feel so much better and had that enthusiasm to enter as many baby competitions as I could and I won quite a few great things. The biggest baby win was winning the toddler bed, it is so adorable with a bears face as the headboard. I went on to win lots of nappies, baby clothes, a couple of changing bag sets and various nappy rash creams and ointments. Not forgetting for me, a mum to be pregnancy pamper set, nursing bra, bump band and a maternity nightdress.

Before I started my maternity leave ( which officially started yesterday!) I took my 4 weeks annual holiday due to me from work which started at the beginning of December. This was perfect for me as I had lots of time to rest up and enter all the advent competitions I could find. But unfortunately I had very little luck this year and only won a set of sauces and chutneys on a Twitter advent competition. I did better winning on the ordinary competitions throughout December. These included a set of childrens books, chocolates, a case of 9BAR energy bars, a necklace and a DVD.

I wish you all lots of luck and a Happy New Year.
Rachel xx
