Cornwall Baby Show 10/04/2016

On Sunday we drove up to Fraddon to Kingsley Village where the Cornwall Baby Show was being held. On our arrival we got out of the car and the wind was so strong it practically took our breath away! As we were walking across the car park with baby girl in her Cosatto pram it took both my husband and I to hold tight of the pram. I had visions of baby girl being thrown across the car park, this was my first scary moment as a mummy.
We arrived early so we went for a coffee and a green tea for me into Starbucks to pass a few minutes away.
When the show opened at 10:30 we were some of the first people in there and I’m glad we went early because by the time we left it was extremely busy. Last week before the show I registered through Facebook for a goody bag. You had to do this before the show as there wasn’t enough for everyone.

We picked up our goody bag at the door and went in for a look around. It wasn’t quite as I expected. I think I expected more exhibits. In the space it was in, there could have been lots more. I didn’t see many baby clothes, and toys. There was an excellent display from Usbourne books.
The pram and travel system displays were very good. Lots of brands to look at.

My favourite of course being Cosatto. The British design is bright, colourful funky and just so cool! We won a Cosatto giggle 2 3 in 1 travel system  back in 2014 when we were eagerly awaiting our babies arrival. It was a further 2 years before we got to use it. Never mind that’s a story for a different day.
We had some lovely people come up and comment on our stunning New Wave Cosatto pram that baby girl was in. It made me feel proud that our baby girl is a little trend setter!
The Cosatto design below is called Firebird which was on display at the show.

The egg pram is at the top of the price range .

My husband is a big guy at 6 ft 4 and we have been searching for baby carriers that will fit him, so we stopped by this display. The lovely lady there said he could try on one of the carriers to check the fitting. We were waiting ages for her to get to us as she was dealing with another customer, and unfortunately we never got round to trying one on. It was really busy at this point.

We ended up leaving after an hour as it was getting  virtually impossible to get to chat to the everyone. I believe we got what we wanted out of the Cornwall Baby Show. The best part for me was chatting to the lovely lady at Baby Sensory with which has ended with us coming back home and signing up for classes with baby girl. There is a waiting list for the 0-6 month classes so fingers crossed we won’t have to wait too long!

When we got home we took a look at the goody bag. It was not quite what I expected. It was full of leaflets which we could have picked up form the individual displays. My husband did like the mini packet of Haribo sweets! I would have liked a pen!
Don’t they always give away pens at these things?
Me being a stationery addict was slightly disappointed not to have got a pen!

There was a baby on board car sign included which will come in useful.

I loved the Happy Birth Project display by the midwives from the Princess Alexandra Maternity Unit at Treliske Hospital, which is where baby girl was born. The Happy Birth Project is there to raise money to help the midwives decorate the unit and make it a more of a happy, homely and relaxing place to give birth. They are having some building work starting in the Summer to build water birthing pools which they don’t currently have.
They have a lots of local grannies who knit hats and booties for them to sell to raise money for the project. We could not resist this gorgeous little white hat with a pink flower, and gladly paid £3 for it for the charity.

I hope you all had a good weekend!

Which baby wipes are best for a newborn?

Before I had baby girl I felt really overwhelmed over lots of little things like what nappies or baby wipes should I buy and use on a newborn. Standing in the baby aisle at the supermarket was mind-boggling. There are lots of different brands of baby wipes and then there are the different kinds as well – scented or unscented? I really wanted to buy the correct baby wipes so as not to affect baby girl’s delicate skin. I also had been reading about just using cotton wool and water, so as a first time mum there is lots of different options out there, it’s just finding the right one for you.

Looking back over February 2016- My Birth Story

I cannot believe March is here already. A lot has gone on in my life in the past few weeks so I haven’t really done any serious comping since the end of January. The big thing in my life was the arrival of my gorgeous baby girl on the 8th February. So these past few weeks I have been enjoying every precious moment with her.
I only now feel ready to get back to some kind of normality. My birth experience was everything I didn’t want it to be. As you all know from my end of January posts that baby girl was keeping us waiting – in fact she ended up being 14 days late by the time she arrived!

Word of the Week 05/02/2016

Another Friday is here and still no baby!
This week I have been taking it easy and resting up ready for the big day tomorrow. The day I’m going into hospital to be induced. I have never had to stay in hospital before so it’s going to be an experience for me. I have packed and repacked my bags in preparation to make sure I haven’t forgotten anything. It’s been really nice relaxing and resting in the evenings with my husband knowing our exciting journey we have ahead for us.
pregnancy

I have had lots of time this week to reflect back over the past couple of years and our struggle to have a baby and I still find it hard to believe we are nearly there.
Today is going to be a restful day with plenty of sleep because I am sure I won’t be having much over the weekend!
So my one word that sums up my week is Resting
I hope you have all had a lovely week.

January 2016 Competition Wins and Freebies

Now that February is here I wanted to update you on my competition wins and freebies that I received last month. I was planning to post this earlier in the week, but some how time has got away from me. I have worked very hard last month entering 100’s of competitions throughout the month as I know when my baby arrives at the weekend my time in the next few weeks is going to be limited.
I had 11 competition wins and freebies arriving through the post last week. I am grateful for each and every one of those as it is getting very hard to win anything lately. I am guessing because people are struggling with money in this time, lots of new people are taking up comping as their hobby. I really don’t blame them. It is a fantastic way of getting stuff that you could not necessary afford. I love to win things for my family and friends for Christmases and Birthdays.

Word of the Week 29/01/2015

This week I have felt very emotional. My baby girl still hasn’t arrived and I have been having a few tears over silly things. I am not normally an emotional person but these pregnancy hormones are having me shedding a tear over everything. A few people I know who were pregnant and due after me have have had their babies and this has made me upset more than once. I know my time will come very soon and I really cannot wait.
pregnancy emotions
My midwife told me yesterday that I have a very relaxed and chilled out baby in me and she will come when she is ready. I just came home from my appointment and burst into tears. I managed to hold it in walking across the waiting room coming out.
I have been booked in to be induced 6th February if she doesn’t arrive within the next week. I am trying everything I can think of to help bring her along without being induced. It is not something I thought I would have to have.
So this week I have been feeling very emotional and I felt it appropriate to use emotional as my Word of the Week.
