Pregnancy should be an exciting time, but it also places a strain on your body. By eating a healthy diet, watching your weight and staying active, your pregnancy can be far more pleasant.
As HARTMANN Direct highlight, making small changes to your diet can have a positive impact on your body. Before you make any changes, perhaps have a chat with your GP first if you have any existing medical conditions or are unsure about what needs to change.
If you plan on getting pregnant in the next 12 months, you want to make sure that your diet is rich in folic acid and this means being proactive about increasing your intake of it.
You can take supplements and there is a growing range of pre-natal vitamins but if you prefer the natural approach, eating folic acid-rich foods in your diet is relatively simple. Folic acid is found on whole grains, cereals, vegetables and citrus fruits.
Pre-pregnancy you should be aiming for a folic acid intake of 400 to 600mg, increasing it to 800mg during pregnancy to minimise the risk of birth defects.
I’m nearly 7 months down the line now after having a baby. I do wish I knew some of these important tips on taking care of yourself at the start.
Once you’ve had your baby, all of your focus will of course be on them. However it’s important not to neglect your own health too. To stay energized, happy and productive you’ll need to take good care of yourself.
Here are some of the things to consider after you have just had a baby.

Get Plenty of Rest
This might seem like an impossible task when you have a newborn baby. But ensuring you get enough rest is an essential part of healing, and being able to cope with this brand new situation. You could lean on your partner or friends and family at this time. Even if they can help with cooking and cleaning, it leaves you free to focus on recovery and looking after your baby. Having too much to do could easily leave you feeling overwhelmed, and so accept help from loved ones if they’re willing to give it. This will give you more time to rest in preparation for everything you have ahead of you.
When baby girl was born we were given loads of different advice on what to use on her little bum to prevent nappy rash. I was very happy a couple of weeks ago when I was sent a tube of Sudocrem’s Care & Protect cream to try. I always keep an open mind when reviewing products. Before this we tried a few different creams and lotions to see which was the best.
My mum always says the original grey tub of Sudocrem is the best. To be honest she is right. That was what we were using before being sent the Care and Protect. Unlike the original Sudocrem, Care & Protect is lighter and not so thick to use. A small tube will go a long way.
It is perfect for everyday use as well as its very gentle. It makes baby girl’s skin very soft. It’s also hypoallergenic and has been dermatologically tested, and is also free from artificial colours and preservatives.
Sudocrem Care & Protect is a nappy rash ointment, designed specifically for babies. It offers triple protection against getting nappy rash at each change.
1. Creating a protective barrier that seals in the skin’s natural moisture and protects even the most delicate skin against external irritants.
2. Conditioning the skin – Vitamin E and Pro Vitamin B5 helps to protect the skin and keep it soft, healthy and moisturised.
3. Guarding against infection – It acts as a barrier to protect delicate skin from the chemicals in urine and poo, and from chafing and rubbing.
Sudocrem Care & Protect also won Product of the Year 2015 in the category of ‘Best Nappy Cream’.
What cream/lotion do you use on your baby’s bum? Have you tried Care & Protect?
