*This is a guest post from Gemma over at Mummy’s Waisted on her top books for encouraging discussion in preschoolers.
We get through a lot of books in our house, with a five year old boy and two year old girl. There are some which have remained favourites for a long time though, through my son as a pre-schooler and now in Reception, and now onto my daughter. It seems that the books which stay popular for us are those which prompt a lot of further discussion, or attempting to copy what’s in the book!
Today it’s my turn to be on the blog tour for The Elf King by Lorraine Hellier. It’s a children’s book that follows a family of elves. Before we get onto my review, here is a little bit more about the book.
Bay Leaf is the new Elf King and must take his Oath of Allegiance. His sister, Sweet Pea, demonstrates her love and support on a perilous journey to the Mountain Shrine.
An enchanted book offers advice and guidance from their ancestors and warns Sweet Pea to take care of her brother. Will her interference resolve Bay Leaf’s heartache?

Last year we were very lucky to have been chosen to review James and the Amazing Gift by Nicola J. Rowley, and this year she is back with yet another fantastic children’s book. James and the Birthday Balloon. The great thing about Nicola’s books are that they are very meaningful and tell us all a lesson in some way.
You can read on for our review and also the chance to win your very own copy.
I love to read books to baby girl, we have our reading time in the afternoons as I find before bedtime is a bit distracting for her. This week we have been reading Beautifully Different by Dana Salim. Beautifully Different is book 2 in Yousuf’s Everyday Adventures series. Book 1 is called Dreamland with Mommy and takes readers on a magical journey to dreamland.
The main aim of Beautifully Different is to help children understand that every single one of us is different and that’s what makes us beautiful.
I haven’t read a good dragon story for ages so when I was offered the chance to give Jorie and the Magic Stones by A.H Richardson a go I thought great I’d give it a go!
It’s a children’s adventure book, but you all know I love to read kids books as well, about a girl called Jorie who goes to live with her aunt and discovers a mysterious land beneath the Tarn.
You are in for a great adventure ride!
The lovely Boolino books have sent us this fantastic little book to review. The great Farty Slob Beast is great fun and a book I’m sure all children will love. Written by Charlie Farley (love the name!!) and illustrated by Joe Barleymow.
