*AD-gifted: We received the Nixplay Smart Photo Frame in exchange for this post.
I’ve been really looking forward to sharing this review with you of the Nixplay Smart Photo Frame 10.1 inch, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, both myself and Mr B take so many photos of the girls and our family life that it’s hard to keep up with showing each other them. Secondly, my older sister lives in Vancouver, Canada and normally she comes home twice a year, but obviously hasn’t been able to as yet, and I love to share pictures with her of the girls, but it’s not easy. So trying out the Nixplay Smart Photo Frame is ideal for us.
The Nixplay Smart Photo Frame is a fantastic digital device that allows you to share photos and 15 second videos straight from your phone to the frame where ever it is. It does this securely and privately via the Nixplay app, which you can download from the App Store or Google Play. You can also invite others to share photos and videos to your frame. Dropbox, Facebook, and Instagram are also supported from the website.
Features of the Nixplay Smart Photo Frame
Unlike the Nixplay Seed, the Nixplay Smart Photo Frame is wall mountable with a 1280×800 HD IPS display and 16:10 aspect ratio. It auto-adjusts to portrait or landscape placement. Included with the frame is an easy wall-mountable template and fixings.
The motion sensor turns the frame on/off automatically and it does this really well. A great energy-saving function. It works with Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant just ask for the playlist you want. The remote control included is needed to set the frame up, and so you don’t lose it, it’s magnetic! You can keep it safe by attaching it to the back of the photo frame.
What we thought
We absolutely love our Nixplay Smart Photo Frame. It has allowed us to share 100’s of photos with each other. It’s easy to set up using the remote and then set it to your phone. If family and friends want to send pictures to your frame, they need to download the Nixplay app and set up an account. They can then send pictures to the frame owner’s account once you have confirmed then as a friend. You the frame owner can decide what photos to share on the frame.
The thick cable entering into the frame is also the stand. It’s very sturdy and can be manoeuvred into place. You can slide it off for wall mounting and pop in the electric lead inside the space. I guess the one thing that bothers me if it’s wall-mounted is that it would have the cord dangling down to the plug socket. Not good with young kids around who would be happy to pull it down! Maybe a later updated version could include rechargeable batteries? But for now, we are happy to place our Nixplay on the sideboard with the lead hanging down the back to the socket.
I do, however, love that the Nixplay Smart frame has no need for memory or SD cards or USB sticks. It’s as simple as “snap, share, display and you are always in control”. If you have good quality photos, this will show on the frame. Just one point, if you upload portrait photos and you have the frame in the landscape orientation, you will see black borders down the sides. Personally I have enjoyed a mix of sizes as sometimes the frame is a portrait and sometimes landscape!
The Nixplay would make an ideal gift for my sister in Canada. I would be able to send her pictures from here of us all and also my younger sister could as well. She can see the girls growing up before her eyes. It’s easy to refresh your photo playlist, by adding or deleting, or creating a new one.
We have thoroughly enjoyed testing out the Nixplay Smart Photo Frame in our review. It’s a great alternative for the photo areas in our home.
