Be A Good Sport & Let Them Become A Champion

Being active and playing sports is a crucial part of your child’s progress. It’s good to install exercise as part of a daily routine from a very young age. Children should be physically active every single day. This may seem obvious, but it’s easier as they get older to leave them to their own devices. Unfortunately, in the digital world that we live in this, could mean the spend a lot of their time in the front of a screen. A cell phone is never far from a teenagers hand, so it’s only fair that you set the right example. Team sports and fitness will encourage good habits and help keep them healthy. It’s an integral part of their growing up and can be an excellent way to get them socializing and making friends. There are so many different aspects to playing sports. Even when they’re feeling dubious about joining in, you need to encourage them.

Test and try

You and your child might end up trying ten different extracurricular activities before they fall on something that they like to do. It’s important that you don’t enforce your views on what they should be doing too forcefully. Just because you dreamed of being a ballerina doesn’t mean that they should be one! Try to let everything happen as naturally and don’t discard something because it’s not your choice. Let them be creative and encourage them. Learning to play a new sport is a good way for a child to find out a little more about themselves. It’s also an excellent way for you to get to know them too!

The Importance Of Self-Care For New Parents

When you have a child your life changes in ways you never could have imagined. Suddenly your full attention is on another human being. Everything you do is ultimately for them. Taking care of yourself often becomes secondary. But it’s not wise to completely set aside your own needs. Parents who are tired, ill, and unfulfilled will not be able to offer the best care for their child. So it makes sense to factor your own health and happiness into the equation.

Tools

New babies require lots of stuff. From the moment you found you were pregnant you probably started putting together a maternity checklist. But I bet it didn’t include items for parents. Consider setting up your own list of items to keep you fit, well, and happy during the early years. It needn’t cost a fortune; just a few items to make life a little easier.

  • A few paperbacks for when the baby is sleeping, and you’re not
  • Magazines to leaf through for the scarce 10-minute break
  • Bath products for R&R
  • Comfy lounge pants and slippers for 4:00 am feeds and the rest of day if needed
  • List of Netflix and Prime films and series
  • Healthy food and the odd treat
  • Music playlist for quick workouts and relaxing

How to find Baby Photography Services in your Local Area

I have been a bit slow on the uptake with having professional photographs taken of baby girl. I know it’s bad of me. She is only a baby once. But we do have zillions of our own photos and videos.

So I have been on the hunt, looking for local service professionals in Baby photography. There is a great site called Bidvine which you can look for services in your local area. It can be any service you need, not just photography. But I’m concentrating at looking for baby photography.

Book Review: James and the Amazing Gift

A couple of weeks back I featured this beautiful little book – James and the Amazing Gift by Nicola J. Rowley in my kids Christmas Gift Guide. Here is my review of that book. It’s such a wonderful story that it deserves its own review.

James and the Amazing Gift by Nicola J. Rowley

Book Description

James has an amazing gift. He loves to smile. He also has an incredible ability to make everyone he meets, smile too. But one day, whilst he is at a garden centre with his mummy, he sees an elderly lady who does not want to smile. She is sitting in the corner with her purple hat pulled down over her face. She is all alone. James has to work really hard to get her attention. Will he be able to make the old lady feel as if she is no longer just by herself?

Author Guest Post: Andrew Joyce

Today’s post is a little different. I’m very happy to share with you a guest post from author Andrew Joyce. Andrew shares with us what it takes to properly research writing a book and the facts he needed to produce his latest book, Yellow Hair.

Over to you Andrew…

My name is Andrew Joyce and I write books for a living. I would like to thank Rachel for allowing me to be here today to promote my latest, Yellow Hair, which documents the injustices done to the Sioux Nation from their first treaty with the United States in 1805 through Wounded Knee in 1890. Every death, murder, battle, and outrage I write about actually took place. The historical figures that play a role in my fact-based tale of fiction were real people and I use their real names. Yellow Hair is an epic tale of adventure, family, love, and hate that spans most of the 19th century.

Through no fault of his own, a young man is thrust into a new culture just at the time that culture is undergoing massive changes. It is losing its identity, its lands, and its dignity. He not only adapts, he perseveres and, over time, becomes a leader—and on occasion, the hand of vengeance against those who would destroy his adopted people.

Now that the commercial is out of the way, we can get down to what I really came here to talk about: the research that goes into writing an historical novel or an action/adventure novel that uses an historical event as a backdrop.
