My Sunday Photo 17/04/2016

My older sister lives in Vancouver but this week she had to travel 2 hours to a place up in the mountains called Kamloops. This is the picture of the town from her hotel window. Unlike Vancouver it’s dry and dusty there.

I love the pictures she sends me over from time to time and love to share them (with her permission of course!).

I hope you are having a lovely weekend- thanks for reading.

Clothes for my baby girl

Today’s post is about recent finds and what clothes for my baby girl we have been given. We have been so lucky with family and friends giving us lots of clothes for baby girl.
Isn’t funny that before I had baby girl I never used to take any notice of the children’s clothes departments in supermarkets?
I can tell you now that’s changed! I’m straight over to the sale section hunting out bargains. I didn’t realise how fast babies grow. She is 9 weeks old and for the past couple of weeks she’s been in 3-6mths. It’s because she is very long, must take after her 6ft 4 daddy! Her sleep suits are baggy in the middle but fit her perfectly length ways.
We picked up this cute little pink dress in the sale at Sainsbury’s for her. It was £12 down to £6. I love the little matching pants inside that come with them!
This little pink dress will be perfect for her great-grandmothers 100th birthday party in July.

Word of the Week 15/04/2016 – Dentist

This week’s Word of the Week is Dentist.
Word of the Week 15/04/2016 - Dentist

Yesterday I had to go to the dentist for prep work for a crown. I hate the dentist and can truly say now that its worse than having a c-section. I was probably being a bit naive but I didn’t know what prep work was involved with having a crown. I have never had one before. Even though my husband is a dental practise manager it never occurred to me to ask him what a crown is.

I could not believe they grounded my tooth away! It was horrible. I can see why now I hate the dentist.
To make things worse I had been thinking about it all week as this was the first time I was leaving baby girl with my parents.
Thankfully I got to my appointment early and they had me in straight away. This meant I was only away from baby girl for an hour. Which was long enough for the first time. When I got back to my parents baby girl was fast asleep on my mum, she was no trouble at all.
I hope you have all had a good week.

Is this the perfect affordable summer dress?

For a few weeks I have been having a quick look around for an affordable Summer dress. It is for my husband’s nan’s 100th birthday party in the Summer.

You might wonder, why am I looking now for a Summer dress?
Well until the end of this week I am still on full pay from work. Next week it will drop down to statutory maternity pay which is £139.58 a week. Which is less than half of my take home pay. So to cut a long story short I have been trying to get everything I need before my drop in income, when all we should need while I am off is to buy food, oh and my dreaded car insurance in June!
When we walked through the door in Sainsbury’s a couple of Saturday’s ago this gorgeous dress caught my eye. It was actually on one of those skinny mannequins. So my first thoughts, were I bet they don’t stock it in my size! I haven’t long had a baby so although I have got back into my favourite jeans, I am still carrying a bit of extra weight. Which I am truly not going to shift if I keep getting the munchies while I am breastfeeding!
Is this the perfect affordable summer dress?

Anyway lucky for me they had one size 20 left in stock, which is one size up from my regular 18. I simply love the bright orange colour of the dress, and at £22 its a complete bargain. It came with a cute little white belt as well. I love the scooped round neck on the dress, I think it gives it a 1960’s feel.
The white flowery pattern is very pretty, and with the white spots it gives the dress a very stand out feel. Not that I am a very standy out person!
To answer my own question – yes I believe I have found the perfect affordable dress.
I hope you are all having a lovely day.

Have you thought about clothes for Summer yet?

Cornwall Baby Show 10/04/2016

On Sunday we drove up to Fraddon to Kingsley Village where the Cornwall Baby Show was being held. On our arrival we got out of the car and the wind was so strong it practically took our breath away! As we were walking across the car park with baby girl in her Cosatto pram it took both my husband and I to hold tight of the pram. I had visions of baby girl being thrown across the car park, this was my first scary moment as a mummy.
We arrived early so we went for a coffee and a green tea for me into Starbucks to pass a few minutes away.
When the show opened at 10:30 we were some of the first people in there and I’m glad we went early because by the time we left it was extremely busy. Last week before the show I registered through Facebook for a goody bag. You had to do this before the show as there wasn’t enough for everyone.

We picked up our goody bag at the door and went in for a look around. It wasn’t quite as I expected. I think I expected more exhibits. In the space it was in, there could have been lots more. I didn’t see many baby clothes, and toys. There was an excellent display from Usbourne books.
The pram and travel system displays were very good. Lots of brands to look at.

My favourite of course being Cosatto. The British design is bright, colourful funky and just so cool! We won a Cosatto giggle 2 3 in 1 travel system  back in 2014 when we were eagerly awaiting our babies arrival. It was a further 2 years before we got to use it. Never mind that’s a story for a different day.
We had some lovely people come up and comment on our stunning New Wave Cosatto pram that baby girl was in. It made me feel proud that our baby girl is a little trend setter!
The Cosatto design below is called Firebird which was on display at the show.

The egg pram is at the top of the price range .

My husband is a big guy at 6 ft 4 and we have been searching for baby carriers that will fit him, so we stopped by this display. The lovely lady there said he could try on one of the carriers to check the fitting. We were waiting ages for her to get to us as she was dealing with another customer, and unfortunately we never got round to trying one on. It was really busy at this point.

We ended up leaving after an hour as it was getting  virtually impossible to get to chat to the everyone. I believe we got what we wanted out of the Cornwall Baby Show. The best part for me was chatting to the lovely lady at Baby Sensory with which has ended with us coming back home and signing up for classes with baby girl. There is a waiting list for the 0-6 month classes so fingers crossed we won’t have to wait too long!

When we got home we took a look at the goody bag. It was not quite what I expected. It was full of leaflets which we could have picked up form the individual displays. My husband did like the mini packet of Haribo sweets! I would have liked a pen!
Don’t they always give away pens at these things?
Me being a stationery addict was slightly disappointed not to have got a pen!

There was a baby on board car sign included which will come in useful.

I loved the Happy Birth Project display by the midwives from the Princess Alexandra Maternity Unit at Treliske Hospital, which is where baby girl was born. The Happy Birth Project is there to raise money to help the midwives decorate the unit and make it a more of a happy, homely and relaxing place to give birth. They are having some building work starting in the Summer to build water birthing pools which they don’t currently have.
They have a lots of local grannies who knit hats and booties for them to sell to raise money for the project. We could not resist this gorgeous little white hat with a pink flower, and gladly paid £3 for it for the charity.

I hope you all had a good weekend!
