Chocolate Brownies

Chocolate brownies are one of the most decadent and delicious foods on the planet. And thanks to a bunch of enterprising vegans, they can now be among the healthiest. It turns out that you don’t have to make brownies with the usual combination of sugar, white flour and egg. Instead, you can use black beans (yes, you read that right), wholemeal oats and maple syrup and create the same effect. Beans, it turns out, are the new flour, and they’re a lot healthier too. In fact, beans have been shown to reduce blood sugar spikes following a meal, helping to protect your pancreas. It’s all good news for those of us who like a bit of custard with our dessert.

One of my favourite things in the whole wide world is chocolate. Hands up who loves chocolate? I bet that its most of you! It’s hard to resist that moment of yummy scrumtiousness that’s in your mouth as the chocolate melts.
We as a nation are huge chocolate lovers. The average Britain consumed approximately 11kg of chocolate last year. That’s a rather large amount, but I suppose it’s about 3 bars a week if you break it down. I know I can easily eat 3 a week!
So when Choc Affair asked me if I wanted to try some of their chocolate, yep me! chocoholic Rachel! I really could not turn them down. I love all types of chocolate, milk white and dark. I love all things with chocolate in, like chocolate cheese spread and my one of my favs chocolate orange cheese which we had at work a couple of years back. That one was a bit weird but delightful none the less.

Choc Affair: Chocolte Bars, Rhubarb, lime and sea salt, raspberry and rose, orange and geranium
So now onto the tasting of the chocolate. Choc affair were kind enough to send me 4 full size bars of chocolate! I got my husband involved as well in trying all the flavours.
I love the fact that all their bars are made with sustainably grown chocolate. They directly invest in people to change lives through the love of chocolate. This is just amazing – spreading chocolate love around the world.

Lime & Sea Salt
The first bar I had to try was the dark chocolate lime and sea salt. Out of all the bars this one intrigued me the most and also had the most bold eyecatching wrapper.
I have this thing about smelling food before I try it, but with this bar all I had to do was open the gold foil wrap and the lime just hits you.
The first taste just blew my tastebuds away. You get that salty taste first then the lime just bursts into your mouth. I am a huge lover of dark chocolate and with this flavour fusion combination it works really well.
The dark chocolate is very crisp but not too bitter like some dark chocolate can be.
Orange & Geranium

Next up was the orange and geranium bar. My husaband and I adore orange flavoured chocolate so this one has a great flavour twist on that.
The chocolate is smooth with the perfect taste of orange. Not too overpowering that the geranium doesn’t shine through. It’s funny as I have never tasted anything geranium like before but have smelt it obviously. Its one of my favourite flowers. It’s a delicate taste reminding me of Summer.
This is one bar everyone should try.

Rhubarb

I have always loved rhubarb all my life. My parents have a rhubarb plant that must be over 25 years old and my mum always made gooseberry and rhubarb crumble when we were kids.
So discovering rhubarb flavoured chocolate has brought back lots of childhood memories. It’s not something I would have imagined as a flavour in chocolate. I was also eager to try this one. My husband not so much so as he doesn’t like rhubarb.
When I opened the wrapper I got a faint wiff of rhubarb – mmmmm I just imagined rhubarb and custard from when I was a kid!
The chocolate again was very smooth and tasty. The rhubarb flavour was not quite as strong as I expected. My husband liked it for that reason, but for me as a rhubarb lover I would have liked a more stronger rhubarb taste.
Raspberry & Rose

The last chocolate bar we tried was raspberry and rose flavoured. I have tried raspberry flavoured chocolate before but not with a rose flavouring.
I love the design on the paper wrapper, its very old English style with the roses.
My first thought when i broke into the gold foil wrapper underneath was how will the rose change the raspberry and chocolate flavour?
The answer is that you get the smell and taste of Turkish delight. Yep that amazing Turkish delight smell that is just intoxicating and the combination of raspberry makes this chocolate a one in a million smell and taste sensation.
This is a chocolate bar for the ladies.
My favourite chocolate bar out of these 4 has to be the lime & sea salt, it really has an extraordinary taste.
Well this is one review I have allowed myself to munch my way through bars of chocolate while writing. Thank you Choc affair! It’s been a pleasure to write a review on your chocolate. I really do love my job!
Why not pop over to Choc Affair and check out their website. They offer other chocolatey goodies as well. Such as hampers, drinking chocolate and lollies.
Oh and don’t forget to have a look at the rest of the chocolate bar range where I have spotted other flavours like salted caramel and peppermint.

Here is my latest books and chocolates giveaway. I love to run little competitions to give something back to you, and books and chocolates are two of my favourite things.
This month there are three books in the giveaway and a small box of milk tray chocolates.
Books and Chocolates Giveaway
The first book in the giveaway is called 44 Scotland Street by Alexander McCall Smith. This book is about a fictitious building in a real street in Edinburgh. It’s based on characters who have some sort of relationship with 44 Scotland Street. You can follow them through different journeys in their lives.  This is book number 1 in the series so a good place to start.

Book Description
The story revolves around the comings and goings at No. 44 Scotland Street, a fictitious building in a real street in Edinburgh. Immediately recognisable are the Edinburgh chartered surveyor, stalwart of the Conservative Association, who dreams of membership of Scotland’s most exclusive golf club. We have the pushy Stockbridge mother, and her prodigiously talented five-year-old son, who is making good progress with the saxophone and with his Italian. Then there is Domenica Macdonald who is that type of Edinburgh lady who sees herself as a citizen of a broader intellectual world. In McCall Smith’s hands such characters retain charm and novelty, simultaneously arousing both mirth and empathy. 44 Scotland Street is vintage McCall Smith, tackling issues of trust and honesty, snobbery and hypocrisy, love and loss, but all with great lightness of touch. Clever, elegant and funny, this is a novel that provides huge entertainment but which is underpinned by the moral dilemmas of everyday life and the characters’ struggles to resolve them.

Hello, this is My Sunday Photo. On Friday I recieved a lovely package from Canada from my sister. It ws full of baby clothes for baby girl ( which i will show you later in the week! ) and all these chocolate eggs for my husband and I. Unlike the eggs here in the UK which are foil wrapped, these eggs are in little plastic cases which split in half to open. Such a genius idea!
I don’t like Cadbury Creme Eggs, so my husband had them. Canadian Cadbury chocolate tastes different from the UK chocolate, in my opinion it’s not as nice. I would go as far to say it’s more of an atificial flavour.
The Fudgee eggs were the best. A superb fudgy centre, very chocolately and similar to a ganache. I got to have the Oreo one as well. That was very yummy.

Have you tried American or Canadian chocolate before?

What did you think of the taste?
